Had a sneak preview of the Unknown Road Tuesday night at the Coolum surf club with about 30 local crew in attendance. It was a casual affair with no MC or hoo haa. Ben Wilson just brought the movie he's devoted the last 10 months of his life making and in typically humble fashion just let the movie speak for itself. For those who are into the unhooked, unstrapped style of riding waves this is the state of the art as it stands at this particular point in time. Many of the locations in the film are secret, but others like New Caledonia and the Caroline Islands are revealed. Stand outs are sessions at big Teahupoo in Tahiti, Ouano in New Caledonia and the wave often rated in the World's top 10 surfing waves: P-Pass in the Caroline Islands.
Wipe out of the film has to go to Joel Becus. If you've ever kited waves in offshore conditions you've probably been blown off the back. Wait until you see Joel's wave at P-pass. His attempt to make it is nothing short of heroic. Joel reputedly broke 6 boards at P-pass.
The DVD should be in the shops now but the first official public viewing of the film will be held at Joel's old school - Kawana High Friday 26 October starting at 5:45.

just watched it. insane. Wilson kills it and Shannons editing is 1st class. New Cal section is by far my fav section. get your hands on a copy.....
