Some info about the trip this thursday:-

-General itinerary is meet up at the Lancelin (Silver Sands) Bakery at 10am, grab some breakfast and provisions for the day, (please note we will be on the beach all day, no facilities at Wedge), then drive along the tracks to Bombing Range (about half hour) then onto the beach. From here we are about 15km from Wedge but you can kite anywhere along this stretch.

-Car info:- Last time I went to wedge lighter 4WD's like forester's were OK, I will be carrying a tyre pump and can give some pointers on beach driving if required.

-You must have and bring your own kitesurfing equipment, I will be bringing some demo equipment for all to enjoy and try out.

-If there is something specific from the North, F-1 or Star range that you would like to try, give me a call ASAP on 0427 927 873 and I will see if I can arrange it.

-Downwinder... it's not especially a downwinder type trip, more like a cruise around, go out where the waves are nice, but the bays do also set up pretty well for a car assisted downwinder so this may happen.

-Conditions, usually shoulder high waves on a beach break, it's a great spot for your first time in the waves and there is no munchy shorebreak.

-Please note there are no lessons on this trip just a few tips and pointers, you need to be a competent independent kitesurfer to enjoy this trip.

-Please note this is a free tag-a-long trip, we are not providing rescue boats, insurance, supervision, we take no responsibility for your vehicle or anything like that, it's just a trip up the beach with a group of like minded people.

-The phone number I will have on the day is 0427 927 873.

-Look forward to seeing you all.

AND DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND WE ARE ORGANISING ANOTHER ONE ON A SATURDAY THE 21ST OF MARCH

I am still looking for a lift for tomorrow since I don't have a 4wd. So if you have room for one very keen kiter PM or call me. (more than happy to share fuel cost/driving).

Cheers

Sounds like an awesome trip and weekender at wedge is always a blast...BUT... please be careful driving on the beach.

We had a trip up there 3 weeks ago - one of the guys hit a small sand mound at too high a speed, rolled the car and was thrown out. He's pretty messed up and is still in an induced coma in RPH.

Please be careful, pay attention to the terrain and take it easy, but other than that, have a great trip, the kiting is awesome!!!

It was an awsome trip hey, the wind was really marginal at about 14 knots if that. There where also some massive waves to be had with one guy (Mike) getting pretty messed up by a big set lol.

There where also some crazy moments driving along the beach with one car driving nose first into a dune (at a low speed) and also a close call with a roll. Whoever it was that got a picture of my Dune Demolisher (Mazda Tribute) when it almost rolled could you please post the picture?

It would have been nice to have a little more wind but there was still some great waves to be had with enough wind to get up on a surf board and have a great kite.

I hope everyone had a good trip, I know I did.

Yeah it was super cool fun.

I certainly learnt a lot about wave riding on kites. Totally forgot I was kiting a few times and forgot I could boost over breaking waves, instead of just having try smash up and over them like you do on a windsurfer, which resulted in me losing my kite and board in the surf, but luckily with the help of Brack and Ben, I managed to get into shore safely enough, but it was painful.

It was the first time I'd been to wedge and it really had a lot to offer. An Onshore side with onshore waves, nice and tame. For those who are a little more daring, there are some nice big waves breaking on a reef North of the actual island. And then if you keep going North across the beach its a nice neverending sideshore beach break.

If anyone got any photos could you please upload them??? Especially of the Mazda Tribute mishap

Is it still on this Saturday, I am keen to join you guys.

Will a Mitsubishi Outlander handle the terrain.

Cheers

Hi Rich,

An Outlander should handle it just fine.

Unless the forecast says something radically different within the next 24 hours, this weekends trip will probably be cancelled. Looks like it would be good for surfing up there though!

We will post the decision either by tonight, or tomorrow around midday as to whether we will still be running the trip.
