Really cool view. Comparing with a synoptic chart really shows what is going on.
Any idea where the data comes from?
Is it an animated synoptic or does it collect observations from somewhere (ie forecast or actual)?

I can pan and zoom the image.
Is there a secret hotkey to change the wind direction to something kiteable?

Awesome! Click the earth button then you change change it to a forecast map amongst other things.

This is a guess, but i think it is the wind speed at different altitudes. The higher the hPa, the closer to the earths surface the reading is for.

if you double click on your location and then add required windspeed , did it today and kited in 28knts its awsome

Hey Plum I nearly got hypnotized by that, was staring at my local for 10 mins. That's a great tool for checking prevailing wind directions around the world, yep great site
