G'day,
My partner was at floreat beach this arvo when our x-trail was broken into. They stole her handbag with her wallet, $50 in cash, brand new nokia 6288, and canon digital camera worth $600. plus the 520 bucks to replace the window we've lost 2K.
a lady saw the whole thing but wasn't exactly forth coming with info, but it was an indiginous austrlain in a car with rego 1 ADY 821, all details reported by us to police, so keep your eyes peeled.

thanks

thanks for your input mate....heaps

while we we are on the subject, don't get insurance it with RAC because their a low life bunch a pricks that don't cover anything, even trying to claim the replacement for the window ($250 after excess) they want to drop my no claim bonus by 20%, and nothing in the car was covered by the policy (full comprehensive) or the contents insurance of the house, also with RAC, nor is there an option for it to be covered

User really says it all.

Unfortuanately I always go to a spot expecting to get "hit" and never leave anything in the car that I really can't "afford" to lose.

It says alot about our society when people watch people break into cars and don't do anything. It says even more when people post stuff like don't leave valuables in your car. Why shouldn't we be able to leave what we like in our cars ? I have about $20g sitting in the back of my car at all times- I hate parking it where I can't see it !!! About time these lowlifes were taught a lesson if people see them doing it.

Come on,get real!

Thieving and robbery are only going to get worse !

People that leave valuables in their car are encouraging thieves.

Mobile phones, credit cards, cameras etc, all easy pickings for druggies or unemployed.

The official Police policy? DON'T LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR.

They are even puting up signs in car parks now that say "Lock it or lose it"

Its no use blaming the Cops. Its no use saying (usually on a Forum)"Someone should hide and catch them and teach the F***Ks a lesson."

If only it was that simple. The problem is complex.

You mention an "indigenous australian". Well there you have one of many complex problems. An underpriviliged underclass, some of who have no guilt about robbing a priviliged person of the group that stole their land.
Then there are the druggies, who dont give a **** if you beat on them.

Whatever you do ,more will come.
Take responsability fot yourself, read up on the methods of avoiding being robbed. Create a safe lock up in your vehicle, lock it and take the key with you! I am amazed at the number of people that get out of the surf and retrieve their keys from the top of a wheel !

i have no problem with the idea of not leaving valubles in the car, i take everything with me onto the beach when im kiting, and my partner rarely leaves her stuff in the car, was just a case of murphys law when in a rare decision she left her stuff in the car

I don't believe you can just say "ah well it happens" and let it become the norm. i know belting the bejusus out of a theif wouldn't fix anything but maybe more discouraging punishments or better surveillance might help.
as for unpriveledged underclass, stealing of land..gimme a break, what an absolute crock, if i didn't use my house and left it unhlocked for a century i don't think i could claim it and get upset if when i got back someonw else was using it. and neither should they. ill leave it at that before this develops into a full blown rant

So what next, dont leave valuables at home - as it encourages theives.
An empty house it not that more difficult to break into that an empty car.

I'm with User on the "Don't leave valuables in your car" it'll only encourage them. If they score a hit like that every ten cars they break into it'll make it worth their while. Don't worry Rebncosh I've lost the window in my car too and had my clothes pinched by the little low lifes and been told that it's a class issue. To that I say - yes my heart bleeds for the downtrodden, underpriviledged indigenous and other underclass peoples of this world - let anarchy reign supreme and they can redress the status quo. Or they could just get a job and make their way in the world like the rest of us.

I think it's a bit of myth that the aborigines had it so good before the whiteys came along anyway, I lived with traditional aborigines in the territory on their land and they were rather partial to the easy european way of life, not so keen on scratching out a living chasing wallabies and eating roots and berries. But then we can probably beat ourselves up for that too cos we pay them to sit around and drink themselves into oblivion, some would probably say a conspiracy to commit genocide by stealth.

Insurance companies? They're all good till you make a claim.

Hi,
I work for an insurance company..... but i have my kite insured with someone else. In fact all my contents are with them.
My gear is covered if it is acidentally damaged, or if it is stolen from my home or car.
This is not just policy but i have used it twice in 5 years and they have paid out reasonably quickley. value about $500 x 2

Recently i ripped my kite from TE to LE when i was packing it up (pretty stupid i know.) They were prepared to cover the cost of repair, or replacement if it was irrepairable. my excess was $100 the repair cost $115. I didn't bother with the claim. but it's nice to know they would pay up for it.

i am not sure if they would cover it if i broke it while under typical use, normal wear and tear is not covered either, and the replacement cost would be market value not new for old. But i'm happy with them.

it's CGU (through my ANZ bank) if you are wondering.

and if they want to take away your rating#1 for a claim, change companies. I aami will fix your rating #1. ( i don't work for them either)

at least it was not your car as was the case recently at woodmans.

Expect the unexpected, on your return from a good day on the water expect your car to be gone..
I'm now the mindset to bring one kite and board. I do not take wallet except for $5 and I switch my phone off - I use my crappy phone not the good one for the beach.

Be vigilant of your surrounds and people
1. look for people that should not be in the area ie old cars with two or more people. Make a mental note of these cars and plate numbers. Make eye contact, assume all people in the vicinity other than kiters are going to break into your car..watch those old ladies.
2. watch when you hide your key, people watch – have an additional key made up. You may have a security alarm, detach the remote, hide it in the car and lock the car with the key and attach on a rope around your neck or buy a waterproof bag. Most alarms will engage if you lock the car manually with the key – try it out, well mine does. On your return unlock the car and disarm quickly before one of the Kite patrol police nab you, cuff you, and have you face down in the dirt.
3. take an old phone
4. bring nothing of value to leave in the car
5. don’t leave your clothes exposed in the car, hide – thieves will assume you may leave valuables in your pockets and people do.

May be the above is obvious but then again what happened at Floreat?

I agree that as little as possible should be kept in cars but still I think it is appalling that we accept this sort of thing as just how it is. Maybe look at raising the money through the local kite association to have cameras installed in the carparks ?

This has been bought up before...

try Western QBE - their home contents has a valuables policy which covers stuff outside the house, in the car, travelling etc

plus their car insurance is **** cheaper than RAC

(ps. i am not affiliated with the above companies)
