Hi Kiters
Just putting it out there for discussion. We need to do something about the constant theft that goes on when you go for a kite. We all work to bloody hard to have some little **** come along and break into our cars or steal from the beach when we are enjoying our time on the water. Me personally I've been broken into three times and you hear countless stories of other victims, I hate theft with a passion. I think WAKSA and the council groups involved should be able to come to an agreement to:
(a) install secruity cameras and
(b) have a secruity gaurd cruize the areas at the appropriate time.
Maybe some of our fees can go to wards some of this or maybe theres a secruity camera guy or electrician that kites where we can do some deals to get this up and running a bit cheaper , the old mates rates.
Something needs to done, because if they ever get caught I think someone might get hurt.
Cheers

You could always do what that group of motorbike riders did in the UK. Apparently the local authorities weren't overly concerned that a lot of bikes were being stolen in a particular area, so they took matters into their own hands. They placed a bike under an overhead light in a car park, then all waited in a van in the dark nearby. Within a short period of time, Mr Thief turned up and tried to pinch the bike. Unfortunately, he got a rather unpleasant surprise when confronted by several large, angry lads with baseball bats. They beat him quite badly and told him to tell all his scumbag thief friends that they'd be next. Apparently they did this a few times in various locations. The incidents of bike theft dropped dramatically shortly thereafter

Sorry to hear of the theft ... it's pretty frustrating - I remember watching from about 200 metres offshore as some crew did my car over once. They were long gone by the time I got to shore.

Another kiter has written an article, which has some good tips .. sometimes, no amount of effort is going to stop them, but there's some handy advice in there:

Why not screw a sand anchor into the beach, like the wombat, and bike lock all your sh1t to that. By the time they figure out its attached to the ground in no uncertain terms they might leave it alone. You can also SL & SL from it.

I also hate thieves with a passion, what makes them think their entitled to your private property, which you've worked hard for. Fricken pricks

I think I'm gonna start taking my pitbull to the beach to protect my car, my staffy can stay home and guard the house on her own.

I seriously want to catch them in the act, but I'm not 100% sure I'd be able to restrain myself from beating the shizen out of them.

I had a mate that bolted a fake handbag to the boot of her car (apart from the odd good citizen guy running after her down the street) it is a good way to entice the bagsnatcher to the car as bait... well maybe not, but it is funny.

... never had a problem in the utopian, theft free world of "north of the river".

A chain that you can padlock your bags to was a good idea..

My whole car was stolen 2 years ago with my kites in it and torched
I reckon it would probably just be good to have the whole car electrify like a tazer style device if broken into

There has ALWAYS been thieves ,and there ALWAYS will be !

You think by nailing one,you will stop them ? Do they belong to a "Thieves Forum"where they chat about thieving ?

Don't leave sh1t where thieves can get it. Simple

Perhaps you could bring this up with the relevent local councils?

I'm sure people would be prepared to pay to park at a carpark patrolled by security guards?

Perhaps this is something WAKSA could be advocating?

wheather you got stuff in you car or not there is still nothing worse after a good kite to come back and find your car window smashed and ransacked. Yeah thats my fault for parking at a public beach.

buy an old beach car. i have a 1980 toyota corona. leave it open with nothing in it. i bought this after i had heaps of stuff nikked out of my landcruiser and they also damaged a door. the only downside with the beach car is the esky with the beer could get taken but i spose an esky and a six pack is cheaper to replace than a smashed window or munted locks.oh yeah and its not to cool either
