G'day

I'm new to kiting, and to these forums.

I was out at Dolls Point, Botany Bay, Sydney yesterday. The wind was up and there were kites everywhere and awesome riders everywhere, so I was shyte-scared of getting in people's way.

My fears turned out to be completely unfounded; kiters worked around me with ease, and seemed to pop out of nowhere to ensure I launched safely and fetch my board when I lost it.

Just wanted to say thanks for looking after a n00b. After hearing about all the kite rage that goes on, it's good to know there's actually a lot more lurve than hate out there.

Hi General welcome to seabreeze!

One of the things they didn't teach you when you were learning to kite was that if your board gets rescued you need to buy a case of beer for the kiter / beach...

Cases of beer help minimise the kite rage too!

Even though there is a good vibe at Dolls at the moment There is still some kite rage. Particularly in the top corner. Be aware of the loop that happens Coming in high upwind. go down wind on the way out, the people going out give way.
Dolls Point is real not a place for beginners because of the strong current and the small area in which you can come in. If you are struggling to stay upwind and have not perfected the upwind body drag I would recommend riding in the area between President Ave. and Hollywood St On the Grand Parade.Do not launch North of the fence and do not enter the water north of the Fence also Please also be aware of the passing rules Kite high if you're upwind, kite low if you are down wind make your intention obvious and early. Do not get in the way of the racing lasers and Skiffs
Have Fun

Wecome General - you have correctly observed that Kiters in general are a higher breed - and those you will encounter on Botany bay are all class - really outstanding individuals!

Cheers Galah!

As for the carton, what can I say but "I offered" [stretches out arms as per The Martyr Brothers from Jimeoin's late-'90s series]

Hmmm, that's quality advice Ian. I use the NSWKBA map
www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1LA3B1H3pr16pm9y2fVsBWDeL9C8&ie=UTF8&hl=en&source=embed&msa=0&ll=-33.988918,151.194019&spn=0.101483,0.154324&z=13 to research kiting locations, and they rate it as a beginners' location. Hence the surprise at the level of kiters out there. Might need updating.

Cheers!

Suability is not your thing Galah. Yes Spin Spin Splat raged on a few intermediate kiters that afternoon but fortunately the other kiter rallied to their defence and all went well.

Apparently not, especially given I had to look it up!
