Hello All.

1st post but it looks like it won't be my last!

I ventured out to Kurnell today as a spectator. Absolutely amazing kite surfers out there today. It seemed everyone was 'grouped' together, like a big family (bbq and all). Maybe about 30 people in all. Anyway, just wondering if this is some kind of association or are kite surfers in general just a friendly bunch of helpfull people?

While I'm at it, I haven't seen any 'monkey kites' out there, or talked about in the forum. Does anyone have an opinion on the monkey kite brand? I've used them on the beach and found them amazingly stable and powerful, but never seen them used by anyone else?

Basically I am new at this (haven't been on the water yet) , and am concerned if it's going to be difficult to do this without a friend with me to help.

Hey one more thing while Im here, I saw a guy today land his kite by himself and pull on one of the lines (maybe a break line?). The kite landed very softly and turned directly into the wind. (very strong wind) I've just never seen anyone else do this? Seems maybe I don't need to have someone waiting for me all the time for when I need to land the kite?

As Victor says it was the Gastra/Longreef demo day. I wish there was a BBQ everytime you got off the water.

I've never seen any Monkey kites in Quibro bay or Kurnell. I've only ever seen them at Boat Harbour in a Southerly. Don't know where they any other times (probably North shore?).

As for the neat landing trick be very careful how you do this with a 4 line kite. It's not for beginners and certainly not for beginners in high winds. At your stage do not venture on the water alone or without an experienced Launching/landing buddy. Quibro is not as simple as it looks, if you drop the kite in the channel the next stop is the airport. You can learn to body drag in a gentle southerly but don't go beyond the point. As Dark Side says if you are alone drop the kite behind the trees but watch how the others do it first.

Get some lessons without doubt and then talk to everyone about the gear you need. My opinion for beginners is get some good second hand stuff there's so much of it around.

Hey MonkeyKiter, I have a MonkeyKite I will sell for $250.
It is a 04 15m and has no holes or repairs. I am using it from about 13 to 22 knots and am 85k. I am looking to buy the new 05 version and would like to get something for the old kite as I am starting to get a collection of old kites ( I also have a Rhino1 16m and a 03 monkey 11m that I dont use at all)

I hesitate selling a kite to someone if they are not prepared to get lessons. Make sure you are properly trained before putting your kite up. Just the other day I had to save a guy from himself as he was trying to lauch a kite that
1. was barley pumped up, limp like you would not belive.
2. Did not know how to attach the lines using the Camalheads, just placed the loop over knot on the kite pigtail and hoped it would stay on.
3. was trying to self-launch by placing sand on inside of wingtip instead of folding over tip and then placing sand.
