This is just a quick note giving props where they are due..
I had a new kite blow up at the leading edge.. Huge hole in the bladder and the whole LE casing shredded and even a bit of the canopy..
After reading posts on here about places to get kites fixed, I went with Moti Levy.. Just wanted to say thanks for their great work and let everyone know they are tops in what they do.. Very professional, fast, and they made the kite look like new again...

Now just waiting for some wind so I can go out and play... Minus the exploding leading edges..

Thanks again
Gary

That looks like an '09 Torch?!
You didn't bother chasing it up with Naish?

And I bet you have at least one sticker of them on your kite now...

They have that funny little clause that the kite has to be registered within 7 days.. Even if you do register it, the warranty is only good for 90 days... So unfortunately not much of a warranty with kites these days.. It might have been my fault for pumping it up too hard, manufacture defect, sand in bladder... Could have been anything..
Just glad it's fixed and ready to fly.. :)

I had a slingshot T2 do the same thing, they repaired it free of charge no problem under warranty. Did the kite flip inside out? When mine went, I was flying towards the kite while it was turning which allowed it to invert, then blow out..

Moti does a great job. But a new kite, and they wouldnt warranty for an obvious defect. No wonder i stick with slingy. You think naish would of made enough money to fix a new kite because of shoddy workmanship, design by now.Unless its a North which use to tear in the exact same spot.

Nah, that's definitely a Naish kite, and almost definitely a Torch. Can tell from the bumpers.

It's an Alliance, but close... :)
The kite is 08, so way beyond the warranty period.. Literally used a couple of times, so to me I still consider it new..
It was picked up off the beach to be launched when it blew..Unlucky is the word...
At least there are good people here in Oz to fix problems like this..

Doesn't matter who made the kite, it could happen to anyone..

aloha for now

I'm pretty sure that's not legal to a) require registration and b) limit it to 90 days in Australia - just because they say it doesn't mean it's legal:

I think there S*#t to be honest. I sent a kite and it was still f*#^#d and they argued the point of warrentee. I gave up in the end. Full of it.

trade practices act covers this. just mention it to the guy you bought it off. illegal to sell in australia and not comply

Did your kite blow when it was being flipped over ready for launch?

A common way of tearing kites on the leading edge is having them pumped hard then as you attempt to flip the kite over the wingtip catches on the ground causing a fold in the the leading edge and depending on the amount of pressure, is enough to go boom.

I know as I have witnessed it a quite a few times and had recently done it to my own kite. DOH!!

If you crashed your car 5 minutes after picking it up from the dealer you wouldn't expect it to be covered under warranty.

That's hardly a relevant analogy.

The kite broke from 'intended use'.

I got a board replaced by Slingshot because I snapped the core on a hard fall - purely because it was unfit for its intended use.

I had a similar thing happen with my 09 helix it blew a big piece of the LE out. I still have no clue why. Naish gave me a brand new kite as I had only flown the 12 m helix 6 times. I'm very happy with the support from Naish they responded immediately to the warranty issue.

That clause only counts in other countries folks. Naish Australia offer the full 1 year Manufacturers warranty on materials and workmanship. We have always had good responses with Naish and North warranties in Aus.

Yep cause it isn't legal to do that here

Good to hear that the brands are being backed up by a 1 year manufacturer warranty.

Yep,

Have to agree with Jason, North warranty has been nothing short of excellent in my experience. I haven't had any warranty claim rejected and most times, decision to replace has happened by next day and the replacement part has been sent over night, even with some things which have been well out of warranty if it was a known problem.

Credit where credit is due!

What I have found is customers who sit on problems and never mention it to the shop they bought it from, in fact this seems to be a common problem and the first place people go to vent is the Forums (both this one and others).

I'm not pointing the finger at anyone in particular, but please, if you have a problem with your kite, bar or board of any manufacturer, the first person you need to tell is the shopkeeper you bought it from. If the brand is well supported, you will walk away with a solution and remedy quickly which will give you confidence in the brand and your local shop and make everyone happy.

If you don't get a satisfactory outcome from the shop and you feel you've copped a raw deal, then go to the importer, if no joy there, then you go to the forums. By going straight to the forums, you don't give the brand or shop the opportunity to solve your problem first and offer you the service which they should offer.

My advice is to develop a relationship with your local shopkeeper and let them serve you. That is why many of us are in this game.

Cheers,

KH

Thats good to see that they are being backed up by warranty. But i still think that having this sought of post in a forum is good for getting information on what kites are having problems and which are not. Because it looks to me that maybe this kite does have problems. And if you didnt discuss this in a forum maybe the next time it happens to someone they will not look for a warranty and just pay to get it fixed because they have been ill informed that there warranty will not be valid.Like has been done on this post.
