I had a good sesh this morning (friday) at Geoffrey Bay on the Island. The S to SSW was coming in there cross onshore pretty steady at about 17-21knots from around 0930, with the wind starting to die back at around 11am and by 12.30 it was <10kn again.

Nice sandy reef flat, tide was 1.5 to 2m during the session and the flat was mostly covered with waist deep water.

Keep it in mind for those morning southerlies that are pretty hard to access on the mainland, its an easy hop from the ferry terminal. Give me a call if you want more info.

This is the morning's wind readings from the AIMS weather meter on the shipping channel marker just seaward of Geoffrey Bay. I was out from 10 til 11.30. Plenty of juice on the SB2 12m.

Looks like more of the same for the next little while, maybe even some afternoon ESE. Come over if you're desperate for a kite. The friendly euro backpackers in bikini's are keen to meet you!

I might hit the early morning ferry tomorrow. Is the best launch site out the front of X-base?

No Gus, if the wind is real Sth or SSW then Nelly Bay will be too gusty. Today I rode at Geoffrey Bay (the one to the north of Nelly) and it had a much better angle.

If I were you I'd do a wind check at 0730-8am or so, it it looks like it is blowing southerly 10-12knots at Townsville then it will probably be on over here, jump on the 9am ferry then get the bus to Geoffrey Bay, rig on the beach halfway down and you'll be on the water by 9.45, you should get 1.5hrs of wind anyway til it drops after 11am.

I have to go to a wedding saturday morning but give me a call if you like I can tell you what the wind is doing.

Good neap tides this weekend, reef flats will be covered all day and if the promised 20-30kn SE comes through Nelly Bay will be lots of fun.
