Yesterday while watching the Complete Kiteboarding Guide from Naish I saw the UDS system in action for the first time. I had never taken any notice of it because my Modified Airush Bar worked perfectly well for my "old school" riding style. Why change a good thing :)

I basically ride with my bar set so that the back & front lines are equal length with kite fully sheeted out/powered up! (I think it's called - blocked) anyway I depower after I complete a jump to go back upwind and power up just before I jump. After about 3 - 5 months my Airush Depower strap needs replacing.

The UDS systems seems to work like this without needing to "pull the strap" simply by un-hooking & then hooking in when you need it.

Comments anyone?
Thanks

Hi there...first post here after feeling comlelled to give you some feedback on the UDS. I have used it for about a year and personally like the freedom it allows, though it does give me sore elbows if I use the "freebar" aspect of it for long periods.
I recently changed to ride Peter Lynn arcs and now self land using the safety almost 100% of the time. The UDS safety only releases correctly about 1 in 3 times. The small loop gets worn and sticks and the small metal hook has developed a slight bend. I dont feel comfortable with this and currently changing back to a normal set-up.
So if you use it check your safety frequently.

I gotta say:

Is equipment from venders just getting more gimmicky, and at the same time more shonky?

I dont know how many posts i've read about new stuff straight out of the factory either just falling to bits, or after a few sessions becoming worn and therefore very unsafe.

Are these companies not doing there R&D anymore?
Do they just pump out new crap each year to sell kites.

i dunno, seems a bit China style to me (cheap!).
