Just thought I would give an update about the incident that happened at Pt Walter late last February. As some of you may be aware my brother Ron broke his Femur whilst kiting at the spit, upon arrival at hospital he immediately went into surgery and had some hardware placed inside the leg. Aprox 4 months after the opperation just when Ron was getting mobile ( walking with crutch ) the pins inside his leg sheared off requiring him to go back into surgery to remove all the hardware and start again, this time they placed a rod up the centre of the bone saying that the last method wasn't really the best way, not something you really want to hear but Ron took it on the chin and started again. Unfortunately last week he went into hospital again because of a infected stitch that wasn't supposed to be there either and has since found out that he has contracted the Golden Staph bacteria and needs to go on antibiotics intravenously for 6 weeks followed by 2 weeks of oral antibiotics afterwards. Iam sure some of you out are aware that this is not a good thing to have and can affect different people in various ways, fortunately it looks as though they caught it early so recovery should go well.
The reason I wanted to give an update is because I know that heaps of guys dropped their kites immediately to help Ron out and would appreciate some feedback as to how he was getting on. Also for those who heard different versions of how it happened I will fill you in. First up Ron had 4 lessons beforehand and was getting up but still face planting etc when he went down to Walters with his sons to keep practicing, after having a few attempts at getting up he dived the kite again, this time when he thought he was going to get pulled forward ( face plant ) he jumped out of the footstraps to land on his feet, the water was aprox knee deep and he landed awkwardly resulting in his broken leg. Anyway against all odds his spirits are up and he is focusing on being able to walk again before the end of the year, it has been nearly 6 months from the time of the accident. Again to all those who helped thankyou very much, and to those who are still learning be wary of jumping out of your board when you think your about to get spanked in shallow water.

Good to hear things should get going better. A shame about the complications. Keeping a positive attitude seems to be half the battle with these sorts of things. Still 3-4months till we get a regular seabreeze, hopefully he'll be back at it by then.
And sanamacro, don't get worked up about the medical system. The ambos drivers prioritise the calls they get in, and a broken leg will hurt like hell, but isn't really life threatening. It is unfortunate he had to wait, but (not being mean or anything like that) the ambulances may have been needed more elsewhere. The other stuff was just unlucky, with shearing the screws, and infections probably aren't uncommon after big surgery.
