With winds expected to be strong over the next few days it may be worth passing onto kite mates to steer clear of the Entrance, breaking news I just read.

www.smh.com.au/national/great-white-shark-in-lake-20080710-gdslgo.html

How the hell did that get through the Entrance waterway

Cheers

I was kiting there a few years back and a local told me about small great whites being seen in the lake, every now and then. That one must have grown a bit.

I dunno..... I want to get into it early(ish) but friend can't get out of work until 1pm. I probably be up there about 11 or 12pm (ie the warmer part of the day). I doubt i will kite out of the shallows though...with that monster apparently in the water.

Would be great to see someone there. If it is as cold as today i will want my booties on and wet rubber on wet grass is damn slippery. If it hits 30kn i don't really want to solo land in those things.

Yeah, picnic point. Go to the last carpark down the road that road along the lake (ie head away from the skate park in a southerly direction).
There is no need to watch. It's an easy spot. Ankle to waist deep water for about 200mm from shore. Smooth as butter! As soon as you hit the chop you know you are in the deep water. A few weed banks that can suck and gusty wind! On the positive though... did I say SMOOTH? And if you mess right up you can walk it all in coz it is so shallow.

is it a saltwater lake? cause surely the shark couldn't live in fresh water........

also 7 metres is rather long. like, massively long. wouldn't that be the biggest great white ever seen?

It's salt, but you're right, 21 feet would be about as big as Great Whites get....

This one was caught in a set-net in Seven Star Lake, Hualien County, Taiwan, on May 14, 1997. Gross weight of this animal was 2500 kilograms (5,500 pounds) and total length is estimated(?) at 6.7 to 7.0 metres (~22 feet). Possibly the largest great white shark ever recorded.

I suspect this might be a case of "you should have seen the one that got away! It was this big!"

Of course there could very well be a Whitey in Tuggerah Lake, remember the 2m baby white caught a few years ago? Maybe Mum's come lookin for baby?

up here at anna bay they see white pointers almost every day.. sometimes just meters from the shore.. if you let it get to you it ruins your surf or sail.. i truly believe there always around us but they just dont seem to care.. the only attack in this area was several months ago out at boulders (jimmys beach) in murky waters. and once the shark had a taste of him he was out of there.. mind you at 6 meters a little nibble could be fatal..
