Do I go out for a sneaky kite b4 she gets home and buy flowers on the way back.... or do I spend the afternoon wearing an apron preparing a romantic picnic for sunset?

sci - I hope your fairer half doesn't have Marine's upper lip hair problem!! Getting whisker rash form a lady friend after a good snog is really not cool...

I could say something about there being notable exceptions and a brazilian solution here but I'm too classy for that...

Look at the wind forecast. If there's wind for the rest of the week and weekend, go have a romantic valentines day....

If there is no wind for the rest of the week and weekend, tell her that celebrating valentines day on the weekend will be much nicer and you both will have more time to enjoy eachother...

Take her for a romantic candlelit dinner at KFC and save the rest of your cash for kiteboarding gear. Say you think valentines day is too commercialised and you'd rather save your romantic time with her for a special occasion and hope she forgets about it.

What is it with planning anyway.

All presents etc. taken care of early, then 3 hours of bliss on the water.............now for take away to be eaten at sunset, easy.

Buy her cheap roses from Franklins. Take her out for dinner at an expensive resturant, but dont make a booking, forget your wallet, leave her there for 15 minutes to think it over while you go outside to the car to find it. Then ask her if she has any money.

You wont have any problems again, its all about the expectations.

Good luck

Every now and then I think,"I should get a partner".

Then I see a thread like this and I know why I haven't

Thankyou

I did a combination of Saffer and Moritz's ideas and it worked great. Checked the forecast and did stuff with her early in the week, then blamed it on valentines day being too commercial.

The key was to do it before the 14th and not after so it didn't look like I'd forgotten.

Also helped that she was doing other stuff yesterday afternoon, there wasn't in fact any wind so I just worked on my mountain bike and sorted out a few documents...

BTW, to those who tell me there was wind in Perth, I don't kite in less than 18 knots anymore...

Thanks everyone for your fantastic advice. In the end I assembled the picnic managed to Kite for 50minutes raced home finished preparing the food just as the GF came through the door.

"You have been busy" "Yes very " :) We then joined the masses of the couples congregated on the beach for a beautiful Valentines Picnic.

Now who says only girls can multi task!

If you packed the food and had her meet you at the beach you could have gotten another 20-30 mins of kiting in. Plus you could do a good grass cuter with the kite and lines on the way in and have cleared some space for your self and used the canopy as a sun shade.

Valentine's day is a load of commercial hype.........for flourists and restaurants etc to just milk us out of hard earned $$$.

Definitely if you're going to kite at the weekend then spend a bit of time of your girlfriend.....if it's not going to be windy at the weekend then work around it and work it out.

At the end of the day, you should be able to show your feelings to your girlfriend throughout the year and not on just one day!

Sci thats not a partner you've got - its an anchor.
Some would say there's nothing wrong with a good anchor but if you have an anchor you have to keep pulling up to check that its OK then you may as well not have one at all
Id be telling her that Im far too busy either :-
1) kiteing
or else
2) out looking for a replacement

Doppleganger - thats a cracker LMFAO but its true.

Valentines day is all well and good, as long as we don't forget its counterpart that occurs on March the 14th. I won't post it on here for risk of getting in strife with Laurie, but you all know what it is (if you don't google does).

Go kiting and if "THE GENERAL" is angry when you return just ask her what she has bought you?

Why does everyone think Valentines day means the blokes have to buy the girls presents and take them out to dinner!!!!

I am still waiting on that girl that will buy me presents and take me out to dinner! I have been waiting a LONG time............

Crikey!! I hadn't heard of this before!!! Well I am married with squids so that is probably not a surprise...

After reading I was very prepared to forgo an almost vegetarian stance, until i checked my 5 yearly calender - March 14th only seems to appear every few years
