I'm having trouble finding what works best for me in terms of line position on pigtails and at the bar and wanted to see what works best for people.

Firstly, for a 10m I'm flying it with the front pigtails in the front (closest to LE) position with the lines attached at the end of the pigtail. The back pigtail is in the fast setting (closest to the trailing edge). At the bar I've set the rear lines on the second knot from the end (the end being furthest from the bar).

I've just picked up a 14m and having read through all the stuff on forums and instruction manuals was going to set it up exactly the same, except move the back line attachment at the bar one knot further back than my 10m set up.

I have a bar for each kite so can set the bar up and leave it that way. I'm using all the 06 stock gear.

The only other thing I've done is bring the Vario Cleat closer to the bar (I have short arms and like being able to release the bar and still have some power). I probably moved it 10cm closer.

I can tell with the 10m - it's just not quite dialled as what it could be.

What works for others?

And yep, the first thing I'm going to do is recheck that all my lines are equal length. The above settings were worked out by me on the beach with no regard to equal line lengths, just finding out what seemed to work. My guess is that the rear lines may be a touch too short.

Hi Brooksy, I have an 06 12m. Luv the kite its awesome. My settings are basically the same except I moved the cleat further out. (I have long arms) and it feels a bit safer as I have more depower on the bar. I am about 75kg and can ride in 25knts easy and can handle 30knts but not for to long.
I have shortened the front lines (on the kite end) in strong winds but never really found the sweet spot so I just open it up as much as I can. Most other guys are the same, open her up!
What problems are you having? only issue I have had is the kite rolling through the 5th line. Infact I had 4 in a row. 4 kite drops and 4 line rolls. Sometimes you just get unlucky. Oh and I have broken 8 battens in about 4months. I treat her ruff!

Sounds like my 12m is setup the same way as your 10m. Sometimes fly it with rear lines one knot closer to the bar in lighter winds. However, pretty easy to oversheet on this setting. Rather have the rear lines a little slacker on the second knot and use the bar a bit more. From memory, the distance from bar to vario cleat is approx. 40cm. Could increase the distance, but gives me great depower as-is without having to stretch arms out too much.

G'Day. There is a discussion thread on SeaBreeze about this when the Vegas first came out. Just search for "Vegas Setup" and you will find it. This is what I posted on there anyway...

WRT line length - I have done quite a bit of playing about with this & have worked out that the best option so far is to set the cleat at your arm length with elbow slightly bent i.e. same length as you would have had your C kite chicken loop. For all but the most seriously deformed kiters, this will leave you about 20cm of depower strap - which is still substantially more than I ever had on my C kites.

The trick is to get all of the lines the same length. Rather than ginning around with the kite end of the lines, just get the back line knots and front line pulley attachment in-line and you will be happy. I have flown my 14 in 25 knots + and still had a few inches of depower left - so I concur with your estimation of wind range for your 12m. How much kite you can hold down is directly relevant to your riding skill of edging, your board, your weight and the water conditions i.e. flat water you can hold down more kite than chop.

I am getting an 06 Vegas. I have heard mixed reports on the low end of this kite. Economics dictates that I can only have a 1 kite quiver. Anyway, I am 75kgs I currently have the 06 Rhino, should I go for the 14 Vegas or the 12. I am leaning toward the 12. I would say that the majority of my kiting is done in around 15 to 20 knots. That is not to say that the odd 25 knot day doesn't come around.

Thanks.

Ive got the 14 Vegas. I'm 100 kg. Gets me goin at 15kns with my 152 Underground. Below that its no fun.
Bottom end on Vegas is not fantastic - not compared to Rhino - but its a terrific kite - very smooth - great hangtime.
No 14s available in Australia if you want a new one.
I think Steve still has a 12m at Kitepower but cant remember if it is new or a demo.
cheers

I'm 68kgs and I have found the range of my 12m to be 13-25 knots with my 126x37.5 board. Most comfortable range is approx. 14-22. I would probably go the 12 so you have the flexibility of having a bit less kite in the air on those windier/gusty days. The 12 should be fine from 15 knots given you're a few kgs heavier than me. If you're looking for a used 06 12m send me a PM. Now looking at 07 gear.

I've played a bit more and found that for the 10m, the rear lines on the knot furthest from the bar works best. If I move it one know closer to the bar it is oversheeting the kite - not enough for reverse flying in light winds though.

For the 14m one knot closer to the bar from the end (ie 1 knot closer than the 10m) works best. At the same position as the 10m I don't ever get the rear lines fully tight.

This is set up for both kites on the fastest setting at the trailing edge and at the very front setting on the knot furthest away from the leading edge for the front lines.

I'm loving them now - was out in gusty winds and they both flew perfectly and turn so quick!

The bottom end on the Vegas 06's is better than on a conventional kite of the same size. I used to have 18-14-10 "C" kites and now have a 14-10 Vegas setup. I dont find that I miss out on much bottom end between the 18 C and the 14 Vegas. BUT - in light wind, using the micro hook is a must on the Vegas bar. When hooked in, you can just use your arms to turn the kite quickly and create apprant wind at full power, rather then trying to sheet in and steer at the same time.

Cammck, I am also 75Kgs. I have the 12m. If I had the $$ 14 & 10 would be the ideal quiver. I can get going in 15knts, but I get bored real quick. Micro loop works well! My suggestion is get the 14m its got good depower for those windy days (above 25knts) and buy a 2nd hand 9m or new Best 9m (kite only) and use your 5th element bar. Works a treat!

Thanks Gilbo. I think that is the way to go. I can get my hands on one of the last 14's around, apparently. I am going to keep the 12m 06 Rhino that I have, or sell it and get a 10m. Here's hoping there will be a one kite quiver one day. Maybe the Rebel will do it.
