I own both types of kites, peter lynn and a slingshot, The venom spits all over the others.

Yes, they are a nice kite. Different to inflatos, but the real differences in performance are narrowing between the two designs.
They are very, very durable and will generally outlast any inflato.
Tightness of turning on the bigger sizes is not as good as some inflatos, but really does not make much difference to most riders.

Cya and

Goodwinds ( no matter what you fly)

I have a Venom 2 13m . This is my second season kiting. My Venom is a great kite and the one i have basically learnt on ;

positives; no bladder to leak or pump up , handles gusts with eaze, auto zenith when let go of bar , big wind range I weigh 86kgs..in 15 -25 knots this kite has been fantastic. 25-30 knots ..bit over powered

negatives; occassionally i have had a few launching problems..bowties. Probably my skill rather than the kite so much .
A few times relaunching from the ocean in strong breeze was difficult and slow..nearly lost my board.

One time the kite inverted and i had to go to shore to un invert

I recently bought a flexifoil 9m Atom for stronger winds..25-30knts. This kite is a great kite , responsive with great depower.

For me both kites are really good , fly differently and i use both depending on the conditions.

Possibly the Atom may have better upwind capability .

I have used Peter lynn Kites on the water since they were first produced, and I have also used tube kites since the first ones hit our beaches. I still used both. For fresh to strong winds and particularly gusty winds the venoms are as good as anything out there and better than most. For light winds you have to have a good technical understanding of how the venom works to get the best out of it. So I think it is easier to use one of the modern tube kites in the light wind. No matter what my quiver of kites is I would never ever be without a venom for the gusty stuff. Because I weigh in at just on 80K I will always have a 13. If I was a bit lighter I would have a 10.

Iam in my third full season and own a 10 m venom and a 16 m venom 2 and find that those two kites cover a wind range from about 12~30+(went out yesterday gusting to 30 knots still had half my depower strap to go)I weigh 80 kilos and ride a 139 slingshot twintip.I started on a flysurfer warrior which a found to be a great kite which was really powerful and turned really well and easy to relaunch but didnt have enough depower for my skill level .I have found the venoms a very user friendly kite, easy to launch easy to relaunch off the water, (with a bit of practice)and a lot depower to give a good wind range. With the launching problems Jeremy has had I have found that generally if you walk towards the kite and jerk the center lines most problems sort themselves out just takes a bit of practice same goes in the water. Some of the disadvantages I have found is that compared with the flysurfer and inflatables they seem to be underpowerd and if you pull the safety on the bar you have little chance of a relaunch as the lines tangle but because they are such a stable kite i have only ever had to do this when practicing my emergancy systems.Great kite lots of fun

Hey Bob and Jono,

I'm just wondering what the fun low end of the V2 10 is like (before you have to work it hard) and what the comfortable high end of the V2 13 is like, before its out of control. I'm about 78-80kgs and want something that I can handle the 25 to 30knt NE winds that we typically get over summer? I have a 139TT and also use surfboards.

I am worried that I may not be able to use a V13 if its gusting to 30knts and also worried that the V10 will only really get going at around 25knts. Ive seen the wind range models but its good to find out first hand from guys that are about your weight.

As the wife wants a new washing machine so I'll be stuck with it for a while!

i have a v19 and just got rid of a v13. At 80kg the v13 will be sweet upto 30knots. I've never had a v10 but i'd be a bit worried what the low end is. The venoms are not great at the bottom of their range.

Hey Eightfootplus being about the same weight and using the same size board as you I have found at 20 knots I have no problem at all any less and you have to work. Never used a surf board so I assume a few knots less. The 10 is so fast and so much fun I highly recondmend it.I have the 16 so I dont know the range of the 13 but the 16 starts to get overpowered for me at about 25 knots.

Unhooked the only way i know is to have a suicide leash on the chicken loop as you say. There is no other way that i know of to easily go to safety and then relaunch (like on bows or 5th line C kites).

Cheers
