For anyone who dosn't know due to the new boating zones we are screwed we have untill december the 5th to write in and voice ourselves ----> http://www.kbv.org.au link is on the kbv website. areas in danger ....everywhere in vic.
so i thought a list of suggestions could be compiled in this thread ie:

reasons
Kiting and getting in trouble to far from shore.
kiting congestion in areas where kiting permitted.

Also a list of ways to get back i.e is it illegal to kite nude 751m off shore?

Any thoughts???

How do you get your togs off when you get to 751m offshore and then get 'em back on before you head back in ?

Maybe this should be a new trick ? The Knickers-off kite loop and the Get-yer-gear-on loft ?

From what I have seen of the proposal it actually bodes well for kiters. Except the colours on the diagrams are terrible - yellow for no boating zone and orange for kiting zone... they look quite similar at a casual glance. The other problem is that at St Kilda there is the kiting zone, and then on the 200m line a 5 knot zone inside the breakwater, which you have to go through to get outside the breakwater. Pretty tricky to kite at 5 knots or less.

Parks Victoria have actually taken kiters needs into consideration and given us designated areas, which are the areas we use anyway. Its a great help, because I hope it stops families taking their kids to play in the water at the St Kilda kite beach. I have had to tell kids that they might get hurt by kites playing in the water on the kitebeach. I know in practice this won't happen as parents don't consult the parks boating zones to find out where the safest places to take their kids are.

The zoning only applies for up to 200m from shore, so once you are outside that line you can go anywhere.

Sureley with a united voice we would be able to influence the review to provide more than the three (or so) kiting areas across Melbourne.

Can you imagine the amount of traffic within those three areas (much more than is currently experienced)?

BTW - Is anyone aware of the dates for implementation?

This is not about banning kiting outside these areas, it's about designating kite areas and I reckon it's actually a good move. Kiters are being considered, it should exempt kiters from the 5knots speed limit within these areas. You can still kite anywhere you want.

We could suggest to the council to consider extending the area in Rye which is too small. Sandringham seems to have an issue with that No Boating zone that is currently being used for kiting. Altona is tops.

Any other additions/suggestions should be put forward.

Where I kite the main kiting area is being turned into a no boating zone and a kiting area proposed for the next beach along.

The only problem is the next beach is between two rock groynes, has no parking or rigging areas, no downwind escape routes.

If all the kiters try to use the designated area there will be congestion and accidents.

Currently kiters and dog walkers are the main users of the beach for 95% of the year. Even when it is hot you rarely get swimmers and kiters together. The sea breezes usually come in when the beach goers are heading for home.

I've made my comments on the plans. If it still goes through then the obvious response is to ignore the no boating zone ... in a responsible fashion. I spent seven years windsurfing in a no boating zone with no more than two warnings from slightly over-zealous lifeguards. You just travel fairly slowly through the no boating zone when there are life-guards about.

well the five knot 200 metres from beach out has always been there they have just decided to make a few spots where kiters are exempt from this rule but the stupid thing is and i brought this up at all the meetings we had with parks vic and marine safety is that if a swimmer goes in the kite area the five not rule comes back into play so it is pretty point less and that means for the last 50 years since this rule was implemented that all kiters, windsurfers, sailing boats, pretty much anything that can exceed five knots is breaking the law within 200 metres from the beach.
And when i asked how this would be inforced they had no idea because local law wont do it and police have no idea and parks victoria pretty much shrugged there shoulders so i think these new policies are a crock.

And after looking at the maps i'd like to thank them for wasting my time and everybody elses time who attended these meetings. the only good thing was the food.

The powers that be seem to get an idea every couple of years, this year must be a crack down on kiters. Like I said in a previous post was booked and warned twice
within a month by the water police, regarding pfds. They seem to have backed away from that agenda. Kiters and windersurfers are pretty good at BonBeach and
observe the no boating zone. The classic I had a fair while ago, was having the
police called by the lifesavers, for walking up the beach with the kite at twelve though the no boating area, sometimes you just can't win.

What does 5 knots on a kiteboard look like? I can putt around at that speed in
high wind and do stupidly high jumps, have they thought of that one? doubt it.

I've spoken to the water police about the no boating zones at Rye, they are way to
far out for kitesurfers, they agreed in the end, and as far as I know leave us alone
and focus on jetskis at Safety Beach.

Kiting nude? I can only do the wristwatch, would that score in a comp? Come to
think of it I think "Boony" flashed a brown eye at judges as a trick, way ahead
of he's time, that boy.

Its probably like most of the thousands of laws for just about everything in this country ,usually when no one else is affected or cares its not policed ,but a kiter continuously pissing people off and riding like a loony in a 5 kt zone will have the book thrown at them when enough people complain

lol true is there a knot limit when in air??? but they seem pretty serious the current rule is 5knots close to shore apparently is allready in affect (chris shq). can you imagine it cant kite there even though the wind is right, 50 kiters in one area, begginers body draging 750meters off shore hahahahahahaha if you could survive learning the sport, learning to water relaunch or a change in wind would kill you... but dont worry with all those fines im sure they will put all that cash into search and rescue to save all of our drowning butts....:)

oh and i propose instead of the wristwatch the 'flying' fruitbat

I just had a after thought will we not be covered by insurance for kiting in prohibited areas?
