Mate of mine went last year and brought back his video. It was unreal. The wind was full-on every day 25 to 30. The locals were friendly but everyone was trying to sell him something. Also they don't worry about the environment much so there was a lot of trash and filth on the beach. The wind was very predictable and he rode pretty much on the 9m the whole time.

I went with a friend of mine and partners, we are both Kiters, girls not, to Mui Ne Vietnam in Feb-March this year and had a great time. It takes about 4 hours to get from Saigon to Mui Ne and the journey is an eye opener. Everybody in Vietnam drives in the centre of the road and four hours of chicken with other vehicles is a hair raising experience. Not for the faint hearted. As for wind, out of 21 days we had three days where we could not kite due to no wind (Wind from the south east). The remainder of the time the wind strength was in the order of 15-40kts. I weigh 93 kgs, my friend about 70kg. I spent some time on a 7m. With two people going we took a range of kites 16m, 14m, 12m, 10, 8m and 7m, a 4'6" mutant and Underground FLX 132 which provided for most of the conditions. Shorts and rashie are the go.
On the windy days, which in December to March/April are North Easterly (cross on), the wind used to pick up about 8-9.00am in the morning and continue to get stronger. Sometimes so much so, we only kited for a couple of hours in the morning. On 2 of the lighter days (15knts) we did a great downwinder from Jibes to the Novotel beach(about 2hours) and great waves on the way down and at the Novotel itself. You have to get permission to land at the Novotel beach, but Pascal at Jibes can do that as he is friends with the Manager. A word of advice, don't walk through the main foyer at the Novotel in your kite gear they get upset!!
There are waves at the southern end of the beach (near the slingshot school) and a very heavy swell/shore break for the remainder of the beach. There are a people from all over the world kiting there at that time of year; Russians, Americans, Brits, Aussies, Scandanavians etc.
Four kite schools using the following equipment, Slingshot, Naish, Cabrinha and F-one/Wipika. Heaps of places to stay with costs from $7.00 - $150 per night. $40-45 will get you a great room in most places. Beer 50-75c and food $1.50 - $20.00 depending on where you eat. We had the best feed one night for the four of us for $16.00 including beer!!!
Not too much nightlife, unless you want to join the Russians drinking Vodka!
I would not say it is the easiest place in the world to kite for a beginner but if you are intermediate you will have the best time. Me, I'm hoping to go back again in Feb next year cash flow permitting.

Hi CTD,
You definately can hire equipment from Jibes but it is quite expensive. From memory about $340.00 US per week for kite and board. There are half day or day rates but I cannot remember the prices.
If you go to Google and enter kitesurfing vietnam or half moon hotel vietnam you will get to info on Jibes and kitesurfing in general at Mui Ne. It also has a page for wind speeds for every day of the year for the last 3 or 4 years.
