Vietnam is rapidly becoming a popular destination for Austrailian kitesurfers. Over the last three years we've seen a good year on year increase in kiters. If anybody needs first hand info on conditions, shops, schools and places to stay please don't hesitate us.

Cheers

Mui Ne. South East Asia's best kept secret. It blows and blows hard constant cross on shore winds 90% probability 10-30 knots+ North Westers (November-April) High Season.
Thermic and frontal cross on shore South Westerlys for the rest of the year 70-40% probability.

Great beaches, secret spots flat water and wave riding spots. Pretty much shore break for most of the main bay with a nice wave riding spot up by the Sailing Club resort/Storm Kiteboarding.

4h drive from Saigon, great selection of buget $10 and midrange $30/110 hotels right on the beach. $1 for a beer and $5 for a main course.

Good food, cheap beer and wind, what more could you want.

great place....not a secret at all....
windy season goes off, unfortunatly our winter is hit or miss over there. Can blow (little bit frontal) or just teases by blowing 8kn cross off. Got lucky last year, almost everyday around July...when it wasn't pi$$ing with rain and blowing 50kn off shore...enjoy

re: prices

keep an eye on tiger flights - if you can catch specials from perth to singapore, sing to saigon mid week then the one way flights can be as little as $300 after tax - $600 round trip is a great price to get somewhere like Mui Ne i reckon
when you get to saigon, take the bus to Mui Ne from saigon ($6 open ended return ticket) and try not to look through the front window as trucks and buses coming the other way over take constantly and you wonder how you have not had a head on collision every five minutes (it is amazing how you get used to it by the end of the 4 hour trip though haha)
and you will get excited for the last 45 minutes or so as you pass roadside flags constantly that are fluttering in the best direction possible...

kite beach is set up really well with air comrpressors and restaurants/bars on the beach and people seemed fairly friendly and happy to chat

water is kind of dirty compared to perth standards (of course) and i did not see much swell but apparently the shore break can get quite hefty with dumping chest to head high breakers - not great for the wave riders but certainly fun to negotiate at times im sure

i did hear about a "secret" or more remote locale a couple of hours north that has a fringing reef, better wave riding and a butter smooth lagoon that would be sick if you have time to visit - ask around about the army base and see what you can rustle up

i got 3 days of 15 knots for my 12m to play in and had a good time - sunset was sweet to see over the land instead of the indian ocean as i am used to and made the trip for me - was sad to leave but was on a tight schedule (ie. going broke so had to get to hanoi and start working haha)

next kite new spot will be penghu i hope....

would recommend a visit
