yesterday at one of my local spots i noticed a guy setting up, launching, then flying his kite just meters away from the flags at my local beach.. the wind was only light and inevitably he ended up right between the flags.. he then walked up the beach to where we were and i was able to have a kind word to him about it. Basically up here we have no rules for kiteboarding like in the big smoke and i always like meeting new kiters. But if your coming here or any other coastal town for your holidays please use some common sense and dont wreck it for us..Thanks
100% with you. Even in the big smoke we have trouble with visitors. At Dolls we get a lot of overseas tourist coming to kite. Many are great people and make an effort to meet the locals and fit in but some are just tools. It only takes 1 ignorant clown to do something stupid and then disappear leaving the rest of us to mop up the damage.
100% with you, when I went to Oz in Oct, went down to Cotton tree Qld, and spoke to locals asking if there were any submerged rocks etc and any local rules, and stayed away from flagged area its just common sense and courtesy. well done for telling him.
The problem nowadays is if you've got a spot and your a local and you encourage visitors and the council see an increase in kites in the sky your likely to have restrictions put on your activities. Particularly when those visitors are arrogant twats and have an agenda to 'own' all of the beaches they come across. However, I've met people, lent them gear, shown them some great spots and had a good time. Leave the ego at home, the rubbish in the car and a handshake at the ready and most locals will look after you.
Anyone who has kited here will tell you the locals a super friendly (there is only 8 of us) but when new kiters come to town we tell them all the good spots in the right winds and even arrange to meet them. the more the merrier. as far as sharing our women.. well i only share mine with people i dont like..( god help me if she reads this)
