Can someone please guide me to the better/shark-safe flat water locations for kiting in Albany?

I've heard of a place with 12in of water - is that the big area on the south east side of the bay ?

Sorry have no answer to your question of locations - but! 12 inches of water isn’t very deep and shark infestations or not I would rather risk that than feel comfortable because of a phobia than to end up with a major back injury ... after saying that.. It’s more of a do what I say not what I do kind of thing since I generally do jump transition in less than that amount of depth of water anyhow... my bad I know! .... but the shark thing just isn’t an issue - seen a fair few since I started and they don’t care much for us 99.99 percent of the time. Unless they are really hungry I guess.....beside been recorded incidents of sharks related deaths from attacks in knee high water, Prob best to just go were other local kiters go if you’re learning….safety in numbers and all that…

pardon the preaching

12 inches is ok fer me - I'm into high speed relaxation and meditiation at the moment, not altitude. (In fact just the other day I was thinking of doing Tai Chi on the Peel at 70Kph.... )

Maybe I'll start flying when I get my ION2. Or maybe I'mn already high...?

hi, yeah there is a pretty hectic coastline down here, so there is always somewhere to go with different water condions for different winds.

South east winds:
The PRSC (yacht club) our fav spot, shallow water yes, but that has never stopped us (check out the vid on youtube)at low tide we have a seaweed bank the glasses off the water as if it was 1 inch deep but its actually a bout a foot of soft mossy seaweed stuff, like a massive mattress really!
Middleton beach for onshore waves with no particular regulatity, but it is deep there, kind of like leighton.
Nanarup, Mutton Bird and some others are probably the sharky places (tho I've never seen one) and they are good for more consistent waves if your happy to drive for a bit.

South-South west winds (colder gustier, less regular at this time of year)

Shoal bay, on the way out to quaranup is the go for a south west huge huge area of knee to waist deep water depending on tide, dodgy launch if you dont drive around the beach abit, but still doable. gusty though
Mutton bird also works for a sw.
Turn onto Grifiths st fro Golf links road and that will take you right up the other end of Middleton Beach for the most consistant winds when it's southerly, but it is never that great.

Note, the commodore at the PRSC gets abit antsy about non-members using the yacht club, so just kite there and hope he doesn't rock up, if he does (about once a month) be nice to him, apologise and say you were gonna ask about that and sign up it's only aout $10 bucks and that way they will keep the area open for us to keep kiting. Oh yeah, on saturdays if there is a regatta stay out of eveyones way and park you car up the top.

see you down here
