Four seasons in one day. The day started out beautiful, warm and sunny with a light southerly breeze and a promise if more to come. Three head height peaks in the comp zone, the surf looked fun! It then turned to a 12 knot onshore and sat there for hours, very frustrating! Finally a WSW got strong enough and we kicked off with women's, juniors and amateurs divisions. By the time the finals were held it was SW 20+ knots, light showers and wedge sand clinging to everything - wedge at it's very best or worst haha. The hardy few left on the beach saw exciting finals in all three divisions. As we drove out the heavens opened up, a dark and rainy drive to Lancelin.
The results were:
Women's
1st - Shannon Ducker
2nd - Anh-Dow Trinh
3rd - Anastasia Pankina
Juniors
1st - Matthew Short
2nd - Billy Hampton
3rd - Nathan Marshall
Amateurs
1st - Tony Dod
2nd - Patrick Jeannerat
3rd - to be announced after count back
The weather forecast for Sunday looks good with the wind 15 to 20 all day on a 2 to 3 meter swell.
The briefing is on the beach at wedge at 9am with Opens, Masters and Legends heats to follow immediately after that weather permitting. (no masters, legends or open heats were held today.)
