The 'big air comp' has proven (once & for all) some amazing facts
As to your question bolgo -
1) brand is just a name ... pfft ... whats in a name
and; as all the girls will tell you
2) size doesnt matter.
We have known forever that RED is the only choice for speed.
BUT - What we now know is that if its 'big air' ur after you need a blue kite.
No question at all - proven fact.

Marty - Cabrinha Crossbow
Dale - Cabrinha Crossbow
Simon - New RRD - I think a flat kite or a swept wing-tip C, unsure.
Paul - Airush Lift (C kite)
Darren - Airush Halo
Dan - North Rhino (C kite)
Philip - North Rhino (C kite)
Ryland - Slingshot Fuel

I don't remember everyone's kites from there down. Definitely a solid mixture of flat and C as can be seen from the top 8 results. The flats definitely floated longer than the Cs, but the Cs definitely flung their rider straight up to reach the apex sooner. From my observation Dale and Marty were the only 2 flats to get similar height as the high aspect Cs, yet they reached the apex later and then floated longer.

There was just one Peter Lynn Venom kite which was flown by Andrew Annandale. No other foils.

Good work guys. My personal thanks again to Rob Bergman who stood in the sun doing the flags, Lauren who helped with writing down times, the volunteers I never even saw who cooked the BBQ, Michael Brooks who beach marshalled all day in the sun, and of course the WAKSA committee with whom I very much enjoy working with :)

Hey Bolgo,

Within the top ten is a mixture of Bow and "C" and a mixture of brands so nothing really stood out as the single most dominant big air machine.

Hope that clarifies the previous answers.

Good winds,

Ooops, thanks for the clarifications Jan :)
Next time we'll look at acting on Lauren's suggestion of getting people to write down for us what brand/style of kite(s) they are on when they fill out their rego form.
I love Big Air...

I think there might definitely be something to the blue kite theory. Except mine was also blue and I was crap. But that's probably because I'm crap, not my kite

Nothing unfriendly intended bolgo - just a bit of clowning around.
Didnt feel I was qualified to provide any definitive analysis.
Besides which I figured that the real story would be forthcoming - as it was.
Very nice wrap up by Jess - the full story & from the correct corner.
Im sure everyone will be pleased to read the genuine gen.
