Correspondence
IN: Graham Baker will act as representative for Woodman’s Point issues
Ian spoke to Darren Marshall who appears to be keen to help the WAKSA committee. Will follow up.
“oiweb’ from kite forum volunteered his services to WAKSA committee –JK to follow up.

OUT: IY sent Rottnest report to Healthway.
IY sent email to Cottesloe Council: Neil Faringer,
JA sent email to Brett at Cott Council re South Cott foreshore revegetation project.
Cottesloe access
JK described the set up at South Cottesloe ‘Phone Box’ illustrating the proximity of the water’s edge and set up area to the steps, footpath and road. This sets up an unnecessary spatial interaction between kitesurfing and the public –compounded by the public being drawn to watch the kites and inflated kites being carried between beach and grassed area. JK’s recommendation was that all kites set up on the beach 70m south and avoid the beach at ‘Phone box’. It was agreed to communicate this immediately via newsletter and forum. A sign will be put up telling people where and where not to set up. IY to discuss further with Cottesloe Council.
There was some discussion on whether some form of tag to prove public indemnity (ie WAKSA membership) might make kiting more acceptable to the council, but the committee decided that this should not be considered at this stage even though we should continue to urge all kiters to become WAKSA members.
Rockingham Working Group
Mik Ray from Rockingham/Safety Bay describe the good working relationship between kitesurfing and Rockingham City (Ian Burke) and CALM (Chris Matthew/John Edwards). This has been partially achieved by a WAKSA-only policy.
Pelican Point Working Group
Dean reported good support from CALM and Swan River Trust following various discussions particularly signage for the kite exclusion zone at the end of the point for the bird sanctuary.
Organising a function for kiters and associates at Steve’s.
Woodman’s Point Working Group
Graham Baker agreed be focal point for Woodies issues
Beach signs
Decision to use “CLEAR’ acronym and kite graphic proposed by Mik Ray.
Dean volunteered to finalise design -waiting on website address for final printing.
IG can laminate. MB may be able to provide Perspex for backing.
All to communicate by email to ensure timely implementation.
• Need to consider local rules and issues such as CALM input for Peli Pt and Woodman’s Pt. and new rigging area for Cott.

It was reported that Alex Belor will probably be able to maintain the web pages with the help of Jan. Dean to co-ordinate.
WAKSA Logo
Dean showed several good ideas for the WAKSA logo. It was decided to use one of these as a seed for a Logo Competition.
Part Year Membership
IG suggested WAKSA provide for members to join mid year for $30 ($60 for family). This was supported and IG will make edit the membership form appropriately.
? to contact AKSA to clarify up insurance policy cover for part year membership.
Nationals 2005
Dates
IG to confirm dates with Gin Gin council.
Sponsorship
MB has a meeting arranged with Sonia to further discuss sponsorship issues.
Can we try to get cost breakdown from previous Nats for our estimates?
Format
IY received input from Steve McCormack and Mike Walker recommending we use the ‘Mambo Format’. This may cause some safety concern at Lancelin although not as much if North Point is used. It was suggested we could do a couple of days Mambo to select the top 10-20 riders. Further discussion required and input sought.
IY will contact Gavin to say that Lancelin is (most likely) venue.
AOB
KPWT at Margaret River. Ian Thirsk is running with this. It will not be a WAKSA-run event, but WAKSA will endorse it.
