the problem you'll run into is they all feel kinda nice in the shop but 20 minutes into a sesion when its wet is a completely different story. Demo or borrow a few different brands that fit properly first. Everyone on here will say that their harness is the best fitting and most comfortable but it comes down to your body shape etc.
(btw i wear a flying objects waist harness that is heaps comfortable but falling to bits after one season)

Its not got to do much with the brand. Either you have a big gut and no chest, or it's at least 1 size too big. Ask to try 1 size smaller from a fellow kitesurfer or mate.

Get a mystic great harness or grab a prolimit kiteseat till you get more proficient and then move back to a waist, the kiteseat sits a bit higher than most so feels more like a waist.

Just get one that fits. Buy it tight as when its wet it'll give by 5% (ish)

Spot on... Its got to just fit in the shop....not fit comfortably. 99% of complaints are due to incorrect sizes. All brands cut their harnesses differently, some have a rounded back support, some have less. Any harness that is fitted correctly will not ride up, but might feel uncomfortable. Buy on your body-shape and fit, not on the brand....

I have a Flying objects Flight control harness and love it, also tried mystic aswelll and they are good, It depends what you wear underneath it to, wet suits and sting suits will make it slide up, put it straight onto your skin and it wont move.

^^^ditto^^^

I have a flying objects waist harness; 3 years and still going strong. I have to do it up tight on the beach, so that it's borderline hard to take a full breath. When it gets wet: perfect fit

Kite high = lots of the problem, and unless you ride toeside regularly there's not much point having the harness so loose that it can move around.

Like a few of the other good things in life, the tighter the better

Waist harnesses do not ride up. Your poor technique and poor adjustment forces it up.

Step one is to not have the harness too tight. If it's too tight it will get stuck on your ribs when you make it slide up and it won't slide back down.

Adjust it fairly tight when it is dry. It will loosen up nicely once it's wet.

The main cause of forcing the harness to ride up is the "poo man" stance. You've probably got your shoulders hunched forward and your arse sticking out like you're having a crap.

Straighten your back. Push your shoulders back. Push your hips forward. Straighten your front leg. Bend the back leg at the knee a little. Keep it fairly straight from the knee through the hip to the shoulder.

Avoid seat harnesses, especially when riding toe side. They lock your hips rigid and transfer the entire force of the kite straight to your lower back. Imagine a giant has put a spanner on your hips and is twisting them. A waist harness and proper technique lets you get rid of all the strainii and stresses on your lower back.

It is all about posture like Gorgo says.....and the thing has got to fit.

I like my harness loose, and I don't unhook. The only reason I bought a waist the other day is because it is easier to bring my knees up.

I'm still on the mystic warrior 1 and it never rides up, used to rub my hips but a few cans of HTFU sorted that.

Hey opty, maybe your not adjusting it correctly...next time you got for a kite get mum to do it up for ya.

On a serious note i had exactly the same issues when just starting out kitesurfing, i had one size too big so bought the correct size and still have it 4 years later. Once you start riding with the kite lower that will help heaps too.

Have you ever tried a seat or just listening to the much worn out opinions of others who have (probably) never tried a seat either?

Seats have less manourvreability (generally - unless you splurge for a Dynabar) but if you are still muckin about with your kite high, that is simply not a factor at your skill level. Not trying to be harsh but that's where it's at Opti.

Also, for less than $200 you can have a seat harness that is more realistic to your skill level (not that of seasoned riders who loathe seats - having never tried one) and in a season or so you can sell it and probably get half ya money back selling it on SB.

Might be worth the expense, because if a waist harny is ending your sesh, then being able to ride on longer with a seat would be worth the small change IMO.

i would have to agree with funky, i started with a waist harness that kept riding up and ending my sessions so i changed to a seat harness (Dakine nitrous harness in the boardies jobbies) which i love, i am riding better for longer and i find them super comfy

I recommend seats to most noob/beginners,youll learn to edge much faster and get up wind easier, there's nothing worse than a harness riding up while your trying to improve your basic skills ,especially when your learning and flying the kite at a higher angle, you can always move to a waist later,i use a combo of both ,usually a mystic waist in 10-30 and a prolimit seat in 30-40+ ,i prefer the seat in the strong stuff,or on real gusty days (15-40) and toeside isn't a prob cos theres a ton of wind.
