Seems the most likely scenario.
I have experienced a similar effect. Sometimes when going upwind in either direction on the same angle I just seem to pick up more speed going one way or the other goofy or natural.
A strange phenomenon: on the same day with the same wind speed and direction.
wind speed = the same
angle to the wind = the same
all above = faster on one tack than the other ?

eg: When boosting I prefer to go large(r) off my natural stance side. ( jumping off my goofy stance most often ends in disaster not sure why ) but I have found that often whilst riding I have wished I could jump higher off my gofy stance because on that tack it feels like there is more pressure in the kite.
Solution for me practice jumping goofy.
