Keeping the locals in the loop. Johnno. e-mail fromn AKSA
Hi All (AKSA, State & Local Clubs, Event Organisers and Competition Steering Committee)
At this stage there has been little or no response to the call for expressions of interest to host the 2008 Nationals in either discipline, Wave or Freestyle.
KBV have confirmed they would like to host the 2009 Freestyle Nationals though which is great.
The Nationals are a prestigious event and for anyone involved it is a rewarding accomplishment to pull together and run an event on a national scale.
Hosting the Nationals has many benefits including media exposure and show-casing your region to the sport and public in general, it activates volunteers and can increase member contribution to the club as well as the efforts of local businesses in and out of industry. It allows for easier fund-raising or sponsorship opportunities given it is a national event.
Previous years have seen the nationals rotate from state to state and this is a viable option for a few reasons but we would also like to see those keen and active, able to choose when they do host the titles as opposed to waiting their turn. I understand a couple of areas with regional clubs have mentioned the possibility over the past month or two including Port Macquarie (Glen Hooper) and Southern Sydney (Graeme Snowdon) as well as a few WA guys at the nationals just gone but nothing has been set in concrete. Another idea is to incorporate the nationals into an existing event on the calendar such as Coconet Classic or Lennox Classic etc.
Obviously time is moving and the more time available to start planning the better. Could you please bring this issue up as an agenda item up at your next meeting or talk among your local crew and see if the interest is there and we ask any group keen to let us know by 1 June. Failing finding a suitable host among us by the start of June we may need to look to event management companies to see if they show interest. Naturally AKSA will provide guidance and support where required and if you've got any questions in the mean time, please drop me an email.
Cheers
