Hey guys,
I've been thinking and wondering if we could start a true down to earth and honest kite surfing magazine for kite surfing only.
Not this glossy b**** you get already with Waverider, SurfingLife etc etc...
Something like what we used to get when Tracks was a genuine read and in newspaper format.
A zine!
I don't know.
Maybe even a regular comic strip and jokes and kiting funnies with genuine adventure stories like those drooling days out at Cloudbreak before it was invaded by the yanks.
All ideas are good ideas at this stage.
Cheers

I don't know if the modern world is ready for the next best thing to Captain Goodvibes.

I miss the Zine format newspaper tracks...Captain Goodvibes, Dr Geoff...letters to the editor were so funny as a kid...but had to hide it from the parents as it was soooo PIC for the time...Even the Goodvibes author told me once he hid it from his parents and he was an adult

Memory lane

What we need is a mag like the original STAB mag... But, actually we had one, it was called CORE mag. It was by far the best mag out there, with proper content and really good photos. The industry didn't get behind it and it failed... That's kitesurfing for you.

What I would like is a mag like the old skate mag "Big Brother". I'm sure most people would hate that idea though, making it even better.

True, it's good to save trees. But, if it's a decent mag you keep it and read it again later down the track, much like a book .

A common misconception is that there is some big bad government or corporate ogre preventing 'good ideas' from happening.
The boring but bankrupt blunt truth is that free market economy generally determines what happens, what continues, and what costs more time and money to do than it returns.

If its such a great idea, then its simple: invest more time than you first thought, more money than you first thought, and more frustration than you first thought into it... and reap rewards.

Truth is none of us could be bothered or are truly committed to the idea.

Me? I couldnt be fkkd, my attempts to create a youtube following and somehow create cashflow from it were lame and halfhearted at best, and so i got a job with guaranteed paycheck and two days a week to kite.

Sheeez. Captain Pesimism speaks.

You might as well stick with Kiteworld or UK Kitesurf but only on annual subscription as they cost megga $$$$ in the newsagents.

How are they anything like Tracks? Bulk ads and mostly sh!tty photos... Not worth a subscription that's for sure.

All ideas are good ideas at this stage.

A few simple cost to work out:
How many people would it employ and at what cost?
How much would printing cost?
How much for distribution?
How much for content?

And in return how much can you make from adds and selling the mag.

Then do that every month and compete for advertising dollars with the other mags and the internet

And besides the whole print industry is going like the CD and record before it or videos, dvd etc. IT is tuff times out there, are you game to sink some hard earned into it, even even worse borrow on the promise of good times
