Cabrinha need to lift their game. My son was out on Botany Bay with an 8m Ozone Catalyst. 25 - 30 knots and throwing some unhooked moves. This is what the Cab leash he was using did when he let go of the bar.

These things should be stronger. Fortunately, he didn't loose the kite. It was mine.

That wouldn't have happened if he was using a cabrinha kite with his cab leash, the kite would have depowered a lot faster.

The strongest leash i have seen is the Flexifoil leash, but it can be a bit short for some riders.

The worst leash i have seen is the old Slingshot ones, since most people don't use them any more i have seen a lot less stray kites.

Why dont you write to cabrinha and show them instead of starting a little anti cabrinha smear campaign? Probably the best company when it comes to waranty and I even hear they let the dealers make the call....Things break, things bend, especially in 30 kts...

I will write to Cabrinha and this is not a anti-Cab campaign. I've owned 6 Switchblades over the years. If I didn't tell you about equipment failure how would you know that this current product is not up to scratch. And just to show that I'm not biased, my son doesn't like the Ozone leash because the outer sheath slides up the inner bungy making it difficult to haul in a kite quickly once you've let go of the bar.

Got a 2011 switchblade and am pretty impressed. But just read forum on line replacements and now weak leashes. Should i be worried to flag my 9m in 25 knots to land it. Have not yet had to and would hate for it to seperate due to a fault.

The lines replacement issue is not about the lines being weak, but its to do with a small proportion of the lines developing uneven stretch and a spongy feeling. Cabrinha have no way of knowing which batches of kites is affected and with the help of the line manufacturer have resolved to replace all the lines (se other thread about this issue)

@the leach clip failure issue
Cabrinha is only one of at least a dozen brand using that exact same clip.
In most circumstances the clip does not bend.
The rider who bent the clip is built like a brick sh1thouse and has the ability to throw some very hard and powerful moves not all of which get landed he is still learning, and sometimes these riders break stuff.

However, those clips have to go for an altogether different reason, and I believe the industry will start to replace them very soon. The clip's design allows any stray line or leader to get trapped, the leash clip needs to be a locking type, that will not allow any other lines to be trapped accidentally, even though it would be a very rare situation for another line to get trapped in the clip.

Cheers for that but is it safe to flag down for self landing without the fear of breaking the landing line or the clip.?

Unhooking in 25-30 knotts in the windswell choppy waters of botany... thats pretty game . I have always found cab leashes to be pretty tough through the pains of unhooked riding. Although i have seen two which the spring inside the clip in question had broken. Though this isn't the case. I love using the North leashes however they are pretty short and if u connect around your chickenloop they can be a bit small diameter.

ya think thats a faulty clip?....that thing has undergone a sh1#load of stress to do that...try putting it in a vice to get it back to it's original shape...and see how much force it takes...lucky your boy is tougher than the leash I reckon

Fair call. In my defence let me say this is not an issue for me. I was not aware of it being a problem with the outer sheath sliding up over the bungy inner. Ozone could do better too.

how about the theory , that the Ozone kite puts too much strain on the leash and doesnt depower properly. Seems like you are putting out misleading information there.

Yes mate its is safe to use the IDS system for self landing. The leash is not loaded in self landing with IDS anyway.
There is no issue with the flecked lines breaking under normal operating loads the issue they have and for which Cabrinha have decided to replace them for is stretching.

If an old guy like me can ride Ozone, anyone can. I need loads of depower. But thanks for suggesting I'm beefy enough to hold down a powerful kite.
