CALM should take over within 2 years, road will be through and a caravan park where shacks are. WIEPA are fighting it, touch and go at the moment.

Things are changing rapidly at Wedge at the moment. Last week I took up a parliamentary delegation including the Minister for Environment and local pollies to meet with the Wedge and Grey progress groups. The decision now sits with the Minister and Cabinet, but will probably take a while for a decision to be handed down in regard to the shacks and future development.
The road into Wedge has now started and will be black top by the end of the year if not sooner and MRWA are expecting 2-3000 vehicles a day to be using the road on completion. This means the general public will be flooding into the area and will have to be catered for, ie. dunnies, accomodation, etc. Wedge and points further north will be an easy day trip from Perth and there is plans for day use sites and some camping through to Cervantes. If you want to read more DEC has produced the Wedge and Grey Master Plan which outlines the future for the area, access it from the Naturebase website.
There is also a very good chance that Defence will limit access to the bombing range beachies, so they will be out of bounds.
For everyone who has their secret spots through that coast be prepared for the onslaught within the year.

The road from Lancelin through to Cervantes will bring a very real economic benefit for these midwest coastal towns. Jurien's population is tipped to be 30 000 by 2020 along with Leeman, Greehead, Cervantes, etc,etc. Its a coastal tourist drive that links the south to the ever expanding mid and north west.
The shacks at Grey and Wedge have had a pretty good run due to delays to the road over the past 10 years, it was scheduled to be completed in 2003. These are also the final outposts of shack living along the coast, over 500 shacks through the mid west have already been removed by the relevent shires using the squatter policy formulated by the then Liberal government.
So, it doesn't bear well for these last outposts but I can guarantee you they will probably fight tooth and nail to keep them. The press is getting involved and this will no doubt escalate as we head toward the end date of June 30 2011.

Theres a shack up there at the moment for sale at 60K. Pretyy funny really when no one is supposed to buy or sell on crown land and theres 2 years left on the lease.
