Hi to all,

I was after a bit of feedback from anybody really, but particularly from a few fellow heavy weights. I am a beginner tipping the scales at a 100kgs after having a knee op, but will only probably loose 5kgs or so now I am training again.

I have a 2nd hand Naish X2 12m which I am using to get up and running.
My next kite is going to be a brand spanker but I need to be pointed in the right direction with regards to my weight... hopefully something that will complement my 12m. I know the question "what kite should I buy" appears a fair number of times in this forum but I suppose everybody requires something a bit different.

Any imput would be appreciated

hey there barron,

a method we use when fitting out guys is devide you weight by 7...

this give's you a bench mark for a kite size in 15kts of wind...

your would be a 14.28m, therefore a 14m kite in 15kts...

Thanks very much for your input.... I have been thinking more towards a 16m kite but i wasn't sure if I'd be asking for trouble... I quite like living!
It would be great being able to get out in 12-15kt wind without having to pump the 12m constantly... but have the 12m for 25kts.

If this logic is flawed don't be backwards in coming forward.

I have a boat of a board at the moment but will not worry about looking at boards until later on in the year before next season (xmas prezzie)

Airush 16m.... Flow or Lift is what I will be looking at I think.

Always reckon its fascinating to hear other kiters experiences who weigh similar amounts, but choose totally different options that they swear by. I guess its all about being an individual and having your own style.

Personally I weigh 85-90kg and started on a 12m Aero 2 that in retrospect was way too small. I then got a 16m Aero 2 and it was a total pig when the wind got up and impossible to use in light wind - at my weight. I turfed the lot, got a 3 kite high aspect 10-14-18 setup and havent looked back. Having 3 boards on the beach also helps, 135, 155, 180...much easier switching boards thean rigging up kites.

Keep the X2 mate unless its fallen to bits or you too filthy rich to know what to spend money on. X2 is a good kite.

Anyone else reckon that people linked to certain brands or shops should identify that when they are plugging their stuff? Just stirring the pot

thanks for the tips... have no choice but to stay with the X2 which isn't giving me too much grief.

Apparently my wife seems to think hell will freeze over before I purchase another kite this year. (hope she meant financial year)
