I only have a 12m for now and can't afford another kite(smaller). So lately I've been kitting 30knots gustily westiy and been finding very difficult so was thinking of using my weight belt and adding 10 or 20kg to my weight. Anyone tryed this before? Can't see no reason why it shouldn't work.

Only that you'll probably either drown after the weights have knocked you out, mate have you been knocked back from the new inventors program

Might I suggest you don't attach the weights to your neck.

That sounds very dangerous. I was thinking of a waist belt with weights dangling between my legs(like when your weight lifting)

Point taken. maybe I could add floats to my seat harness to counteract the weights if I fall in the water.

thank you Dusta. I like to think out side the box.

Ok maybe the weights Are not the best idea. But what about ice? A couple of servo bags of ice attached to my waist belt. Boyent in the water and heavy while standing.
Thorts?
Still Can't see any reason why it won't work.

sell your 12m buy 2 x 6m kites and stack them together when you need more power!....

You could try eating more pies. maybe resort to eating stones. skull 21 leters of milk before you ride. on the light wind days. take an enima.

develop a system that makes your kite more C shaped.

teather yourself to a vending machine. that will slow you down.

ps there are no stupid questions. only stupid answers...... well maybe there is stupid questions.

how about using a mcD's tray for a board?

Fkn GOLD!!! Best post for ages... Thanks 'killer'.

Ok, serious face on... Here's the solution, part fill your bladder (kite bladder - not yours) with water, if you get the calculations just right, you should be able to depower the kite to whatever size you want.....

Let us know how you get on.

P.S. If you used 10 -20 kg of feathers instead of lead, that would be another option....

P.P.S. Helium in your kite would counteract the weight pulling you down to Davy Jones' Locker (but teh calkewlations may bee two harrd)

Get the weights and about 8' of rope....
Find a high bridge.
Now tie one end of rope to old fella and the other to the weights....

Whilst standing on edge of bridge throw weights off the bridge .

After a few goes your old fella will be big enough that you will have no need to use the weights whilst kiting.

weight jacket
refer to race sailing section
they were used to load up a bigger sail

a 6m or 7m kite would do the job better though

and you know what happens to ice when the surrounding temps are higher than the temp of the ice right ?

Cut off part of each wing tip to make a total decrease in area of about 25% that should give you an 8-9m kite. Then glue on some velcro so you can re-attach them when the wind drops. Should work fine.

Easy!
Don't tamper with your kite...too dangerous. Bring a couple of fans and a cable reel to the beach. Set them up so that they will blow against the wind direction. Use the settings 1-3 to adjust the wind you want to kite in.
If my calolution is corect you wil get the wind daun too 20 nots on seting 3 (min. 5 fans).

Get an older model kite in a 16 or 18 metre as they are really heavy material compared to your modern 12 metre. That way they should be about the same weight as a weight belt and give you heaps more movement to pull off some "sick moves"

putting weights on would be very dangerous. you should cut out leg holes in a plastic rubbish bin and slip into a giant rubbish bag, put your legs through and you will be able to vary the water required to ballast in every wind. the scoop value would make adding weight very quick.
can see no reason that it should't work.......

How about turning that 12 mtr kite inside-out, half fill the leading edge with gelatine, replace your kite lines with 6mm rope, tape the bottom of your wetsuit legs off, and fill your legs up with water, wrap duct tape around your board after you've covered it with sand, attach a sea anchor to your foot straps, have 50 weetbix for breakfast, and pray.

Get a couple of long ropes and tie them together. Bunnings have a 50m one for $6, so about 8 of them should do. Tie one end to that handle on the back of your harness and the other end to a handy object on shore, like a large rock, car, or power pole. If you make the rope long enough you should be able to do nice long runs in either direction. Can't see no reason why it shouldn't work.

If U do not want to reshape your kite to a smaller size[}:)], - stop trying to go up wind - the faster you go down wind the less overpowered you are - simple -

Good idea to practice your hitching technique to get back to your set of wheels.

So downwinder -- go for it.

Drink some mercury.
Tastes a little better if you put it in a strawberry milkshake.
