Heya Kiteman,
If you're going to venture to Wello, you'll save a lot of pain and agony by buying a pair of 'booties'. Have a read through this 'topic' about booties and recc. ones.
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17977 Booties liek I have - been about a year, and still in prefect nick.
Wello is kiteable in all directions, however the best are NW/N/NE/E/SE. S'ly is particular gusty as it comes directly off the spit/ land and is fairly offshore if you aren't a competant kiter. W'ly as in most areas is gusty and not recc, however, Wello point is one of the only spots which you can kite in a W'ly.
At high tide, Wello is brillant as there is room for everyone to kite

On the straddy side the water is waist deep and the manly side is extremely deep. You can kite low tide in a S through to E, however you have to walk up to the beacons and kite out in shallow water until you reach the deep water further upwind (not recc. for beginners as it's land totally downwind). In a NE/N/NE/W/and SW you can kite on the manly side of the spit but you need to ensure you can stay upwind really well, as it's a long way to be dragged over to manly and thornside.
At a high tide of 2m you run out of setting up space, but anything lower than 1.6m's are you have enough set-up space, or set up extremely qucikly on the grass and by-pass a council fine. If you are caught with any kiteboarding equipment above the high tide mark, the council can fine you a $275 fine

Other locations include Brighton, The pool, Woody pt, Queens Beach Nth at Reddy, Scarbs, and quite a few other places. It all depends on what stage of kiting you are at; beginner, int, or advanced to where it is a great location for you to kite.
Kiteman, head down tomorrow and you can see how the tide goes, where to set-up etc, what direction allows you to kite in certain areas, and get to know some of the 'locals'. I should be down there tomorrow for sure so give me a 'nod' if you want a hand, or send me a pm message.

More than happy to help.
Goodwinds

and hope for the 15/20 to show tomorrow!
