if you plan to go out all year get the oneil sealed one, you will never get cold in it, may be a little hot for summer though. i also wear booties because im afraid of standing on something at st kilda. if you a looking for a bargain go to torquay, they have an oneil shop in one of the side streets that sell seconds and display stuff, thats where i got mine. greg
IMO there is no way you need a steamer for summer in melbourne, massive overkill. i'm in a peak spring suit, $89, keeps me toasty warm and i normally feel the cold in a big way. (just make sure you get a good fit, that's the key.)
by the way the water in port phillip is unusually warm this summer, which is fantastic.
Ditto again on the Spring Suits, short sleeved, sealed seams, Radiator do an awesome titanium 1.5/2mm very stretchy and light, but as warm as a 3/4, if you feel the cold or on solder southerly days team it up with a long sleeved titanium long sleeve rashy.

Not sure if I plan to go out all year - Its been 12 years since I lived in Melbourne, but I remember never even considering going in the water during winter when I was there before.
