hey all
from our last crappy summer caused by La nina i was wondering if anyone knew what kind of seasonal forecast we are expected to have?
i know that positive SOI values are an expected La nina whilst negative are El nino but they now say we are due for a neutral summer??
anyone have any ideas?

Hi Mick,

Dunno about your neck of the woods but I think we are in for a good year this year. We've had early seabreezes. The water remains cool and the day temps are mild.

The guys in the tropical belt have had a windy season so I'm hoping this in an indicator for the rest of us. Last years the tropics had shockers as did we.

We are so owed a good season.

Good winds (hopefully),

They said another La Nina on the news last night, so very similar to last summer. Wet and stormy with loads of swell.

up here we have had very little wind or swell over winter, and the sou-westers still haven't started. the coming week looks pretty dismal too for wind and waves.
hopefully its just a late start to a great season.

We have had a great season in PNG the trade winds were super consistent, how-ever not as strong as an el nino year.

hope the summer breeze turns up in Oz so you guys can have as good a season as we are having.

our only hope here is that the water is cold (helping set up seabreezes ) the friggen valley is still there so crapo westerlies will probably continue to keep NE seabreezes just offshore , and when you look at the seabreeze wind arrows nobbys will be pus 10 -12 kts E and norah head will be pumpin as usual 20 kt plus NE and still a fair old drive away.
The map is troughing out already with the highs ridging and pushing a pus easterly onshore flow .If its nukin easterly it will probably be pouring rain as well

my tip, take up hang gliding or paragliding or move to WA .

Having said that next mon tue wed are looking promising for a seabreeze with strong onshore winds for the rest of this week ( yep good luck overcoming the shorey and the sweep, hope you like rain)
next week will be a good indicator of summer if this northerly flow sets up .Will it just fluff its way down the valley ( or howl ) westerly or will the seabreeze fire up.?

If you talk to the old salty poleys they used to do it at the cliff at dicko in the 80's in a NE .Now there is never enough wind there and hardly ever enough at Nobbys for them .

There will be some hot days but also some cool days.

There will be some windy days, but also some days with little or no wind.

There is a good chance of some days being rainy.

i think plan A is just get down there on the marginal days, and saviour the better ones when they come along, we all like 20 kn SW's but 14-16 still goes ok for getting some water through your gills

Doesn't La nina cause WA to have hotter dryer summers?
In that case I wouldn't mind betting we will be sweltering waiting for a seabreeze, which would be delayed by stronger than usual easterlies. But then when the seabreeze does come in, it will be swoit and will bring in tropical sort of storms.
