Howdy,

I'm finally biting the bullet and wanting to purchase a North Rebel either 12/13 but are still not sure what size I should be getting. I've had two 5 hour lessons over two seasons so it's been a while since being out there.

I weigh around 85kg and live in Perth so was wondering if anyone out there could give me some advice on what would be the ideal size for my weight, experience and location?

Thanks heaps!

a 10m would be great as a single kite quiver for Perth and your body weight. It would allow you to get going in 18 knots up to 25 knots at first. With experience you'll be able to get out in 15-18 knots and perhaps a bit over 25 knots as well, but by then you will probably want to get a smaller kite for those very windy days.

yep, 10m sounds the right size for you. I had the 11m, weighed about that then, but always lighter down here. They have a really big wind range.

I am 70 and on a 2012 9m - I started last season and was needing 18 to get going - this season I can get started on 15.

Therefore I agree with other posts - 10m will be right for you.

If you are learning to kite in Perth this summer, make sure you budget for good life insurance!

Found this on the interwebz, perhaps it can help give you a better understanding of what to look for... alternativly perhaps some of the more experienced kiters can let me know if its total bollocks.

Hey Beanz, why wouldn't I want to get a Rebel? I've heard its one of the best all round kites and good for beginners..Other than that, I did my 10 hours or so training with a 10 North Evo...

HAHA...Why's that?...cos they'll be a million of kiteboarders out there?....I've done around 10 hours training so far out at Safety Bay and nothing too extreme has happened yet...Don't worry, I'm all sorted in the insurance department

Cheers for that Snowballas / Allano....I had a look at it and it's saying my ideal size for 20 knot winds and my weight would be around a 5 metre kite!...I think I'll go for a 10...It's too bad they're so expensive, that way I could get a range of different sizes to suit the conditions...Gotta think about getting the most out of one kite I think...

I wish I could afford more than one kite, but have to buy one that has a good wind range to cover most of the summer I guess...If you want to donate a few different size kites to me, PM me your details

Considering a new rebel costs around $1500 let alone the bar, board and harness It's far to expensive an exercise to get more than one, aside from re-mortgaging the house

Hey - I didn't say not to get a rebel. Someone else was asking the question. I have found the Rebel to be an excellent kite - although initially I found the quick turning and power an adjustment from my RRd Vision which was much easier to fly and relaunch. Now in my second season I am getting the full benefit of the kite with its low end power and depower ability with the 5 line when I had it out in 25 knots a couple of weeks ago.

If you end up getting one ping me and I will give you a couple of tips which took me a full season to understand.

Iti is right, buy second hand, if you wait for the right deal, you will be able to afford a quiver on $1500! I scored an excellent condition 2 year old vegas for $400 the other day, yes its 2 years old, but it also means I have now got a bunch of kites, which suit all kinds of conditions at my disposal instead of being stuck with one shiny very expensive kite that I don't want to risk destroying!

Have a geez at the second hand gear listed in the buy and sell section, you'll be amazed at what's out there :)

Have fun!

I think you might have entered your weight in the lbs box making your calculated weight 38kgs.
