I just finished my Advanced AKS lesson recently and started planing on the board when i noticed things happening that Ive never seen happen to people before.

when i was twirling in the water with the board on my feet the kite went "Flump!" and popped inside out. SO i was looking at a big Airush logo rather than the struts, still flew alright, but im guessing the instructors didnt like it.

Another one was where i have trouble; I can get up moving onto the plane, but cant turn the kite back quick enough and ill sink down or This will happen, I get too much speed and the kite crashes, but keeps tention long enough for me to run the lines over the top of the kite and the lines get mixed up (so the outside lines are now the inside lines)

Am I cursed? or does this happen to other people too?

Hi INfiniDIE,

I have a few solutions for you.

1/ The kite went "Flump" as you twisted around onto your back whilst in the water start position. This is because your legs were extended and not crouched up. Your kite became out of the Kite-board-body alignment and spun you around. When this happens, you look at the kite upside down and pull the wrong way on the bar and crash the kite.

Answer: Bend your knees and keep the board between you and the kite at all times when in the water start position.

2/ You are using too much power and not enough technique to get your weight out of the water (due to extended legs and not leaning forwards on power stroke) so that when you get up, the kite has reached the edge (neutral) of the window and has expelled most of it's energy which detensions the lines and makes the kite turn slower. Most noobs do this initially as the stoke of getting up tends to make them forget about turning the kite.

Answer: Bend the knees, roll your weight forwards onto the board as the kite power comes on, you will use 1/3rd of the power and will have tonnes of wind window left to turn your kite. Do not be so aggressive with the power stroke.

3/ Not quite sure what you mean here, the outside lines will always be the outside lines, they may be twisted around the inside lines due to the kite rolling???? Concentrate on the kite control and do not take off straight downwind towards the kite, take off more across the wind and stop crashing the kite!

4/ No you are not cursed, you just have technique challenges due to inexperience. All can be overcome with practice and a few good tips from your instructor.

Good winds,
