I started kiting in March and have yet to have fun in the sea breezes (Perth WA) with the sun shining; it must be wonderful rather than the autumn and wintery weather I have learnt in. But hey it is so addictive.

I can confidently launch, get out and about, go upwind make turns, body drag etc. and plan on learning to jump once the conditions and my skill level improve.

I currently have a 2007 Rebel 12m, North Dragon TT ~135x39cm, me 73kg and most of my kiting in summer will be on the river at Peli Point. (Only because it is the closest kiting place to home)

I am not convinced you can have a one kite quiver, sure you can fly my kite in 13-24kn but the reality is the excitement zone is a somewhat smaller range.

I think I will need a smaller kite for the windier days (winter fronts included) and have been considering a 7m Rhino or maybe a 9m Rebel. It will need to be second hand and probably 1 or 2 years old.

Any suggestions?

A one kite quiver is fine, but will never satisfy the kiting enthusiast. Expect to end up with 4 or 5 kites, at least.

You have a 12m at the moment, good choice for light winds(or bigger riders). I'd recommend anything from a 7m to 10m depending on what you want to do with the kite. Don't be tempted to go a crazy advanced kite, it will slow your learning. Go for a hybrid/bow kite if you can.

If you bought an 8m lets say, and had an old surfboard, you could end up using it in 15knots(on the surfboard in surf) and up to 35knots on your twin tip.

Using shorter/longer lines can also increase the wind range capabilities of your equipment.

Next on your agenda(after the kite) should be a light wind board(surfboard is best for the conditions here in summer).

Yes, i am going to be selling my 8m sonic soon so obviously i am pimping it slightly, but you could also go to a kite dealer and demo other gear until you find something you like.

I don't think the days will ever return where you can trust what is written in the review section but it is a good guide as to what to bother demoing. If you try it and someone has flat out lied about performance characteristics then go to town on them, but make sure you have facts first !

LOL, have i said anything about the characteristics of the kite I might sell? hmmm, nope. have i mentioned my "mate" the dealer who sells the kite? nope. Do i give a fark what you think? nope.

end of the day, everyone knows you should fly kites for yourself, have some and when you are bored or grumpy then head to seabreeze for some handbags.

BTW the sonic gets an 11 out of 10, jumps make you land on the moon and it even does the washing up.
