Caught and released according to the article - so you might want to find a new kite beach for a while...

The tiger is decent but the hammerhead is really impressive and interestingly only took 90min to land which suggests some very serious gear. 80lb Tiagra's at a minimum you'd think with a fair amount of forethought. A deep spool alvey or regular ballooning setup isn't going to do the job.

I wouldn't think you blokes who live up north are overly concerned given the abundance of big sharks

I am pretty sure the big hammerhead is the same one we have been seeing here for over 10 years chasing rays and has probably doubled in size.the tiger we watched last year eating a smaller one on the shoreline on the beach behind us but has given us a few scares while doing lessons(can't prove its her but they do seem to have a pretty consistent routine that you can follow) I am glad they went back as they are a bit of a highlight to be able to kite around and are part of the nature that makes this spot so good. Mind you I haven't seen either since they were caught. Just glad we don't have any clubbies to close the beach every time a shark is spotted.

I wonder what the likely hood is that they survived. Surely they would be pretty much rooted after the fight?
