When you can

Go upwind ?
Transition ?
Jump ?
Avoid the newbies still in the water ?
Or all the above ?

When you...
- stop looking like a kook
- no longer have a poo stance
- can relaunch your kite in under 10 minutes
- stop criticising people for wearing boardies over their wetsuits

Maybe when you can confidently do everything alone. No more needing someone to keep a constant eye on you.
Also, when people aren't scarred when you go past.

- When you no longer have ball chafe from your boardies due to having to walk back up the beach with your kite.

- When your advice works

- When you are tired from kiting rather than swimming.

Almost, but I don't think this is a piss weak post. I think it's quite valid, and am quite enjoying reading it.

I certainly agree with Mr KIT33R, you never stop learning, but when do you stop being a n00b? I suppose the natural question that one must ask oneself to begin to answer that is, 'am I still a n00b'? If I were to stand next to Lou Wainman or even Youngy, Darren, or the other 'masters' around here the answer would be have to be yes, but standing next to some others...?

O.K then when you can put on your favourite boardies and harness only, grab your unstrapped surfboard and 9m kite then ride 3 km off shore to your favourite reef break, shred it up for a couple of hours through to low tide and ride back again with a massive grin on your face and memories pictured only yours and your mates heads. No need for cameras, stinky boats and technology apart from the gear your using and the boardies / harness you wear. Sound familiar, if not your still got some distance to go.

Skill and experience come with a life on the water and understanding the enviroment we are living in through the seasons that past.

Enjoy

I think you stop being a newbie, when you can answer that very question.

When your kite, bar and lines, and board become an extension of your body and you no longer need to consciously think to ride and jump, carve and kite in any direction you choose.

It's like driving a manual shift car, you never think about using the clutch, accelerator and gear stick all at once and in perfect synchronicity, you just shift and then before you know it, you're in the next gear. Same with kiting, when you kite like that, you are no longer a noob.

Yep, that's it. You get it from flying your kite ......... a lot!

Good winds,

This one.

And for the record, you do not need balls to kiteloop. In fact, I have it on good authority that they can be quite a hindrance.
