Just throwing this out there, wondering what others think of the situation, or get frustrated like I do?
It happens to be a bit as I like to kite just off the pack down at brighton, scarbs or trigg, anywhere really.
I’ll be on a peak to myself having a ball away from other kiters (and no where near any surfers), when either one surfer or a small group will appear out of the dunes and head towards where I am wave kiting. When I see them I make sure I ride all the way in so they see me riding the peak before they head out and hopefully decide to surf elsewhere.
99% of the time they paddle straight out where I am kiting, decent surfers don’t really drift downwind and I am forced to move on. Usually meaning moving downwind into the kiting pack or moving upwind a lot and inevitably, after riding wave downwind, back on the surfers.
Frustrates me - I am a surfer as well but common sense says (to me) not to paddle out where a kiter or poley is riding… but the unwritten kiting rules say that surfers have the right of way...?
Chances are you have gone out where there is the hint of a bank giving the waves some shape (and why wouldn't you)? I'm guessing that this is what has attracted the surfers to where you are, rather than you being there. Probably a bit frustrating for you, but given how much easier it is for you to get onto waves, and how you can probably have more fun at a worse bank than the surfers can, I can see why they'd head out where you are and reckon it's probably reasonable to expect you to move on.
Besides, anyone keen enough to surf a Perth beachie in 12+ knots deserves all the waves they can get!!
We all have a right to be there. just don't get too close to them. Chances are when it's windy they won't be able to hold their position very long anyway.
When I have easy access to 5 km of coastline and another 200 waves on the cards before the end of the session, I don't mind moving on and leaving them any pic they choose Surf is never crowded when there is enough wind for us to be out there anyway
Yup, bad attitude i agree but i think the problems we face and will in the future will come from someone kiting through the flags or nutting a rich beach walker trying a handle pass to close to the shore rather than taking the lions share from fellow wave hunters...Then I am Goldy Born and bred so hassleing is all I know...

Move or get run over, same as life...
Excellent way to ensure the future of kiting on our beaches!!
And here I am tip toeing throught the tulips After a course of chemo cream to eliminate sunspots I will be wearing a hat. Anybody who takes that as an invitation to make a pass runs his own risk

What about ripping the face off a local kid surfing? Hard to see when they're duckdiving.
