Any advice on buying a van in WA? Also conditions in January for wave rding?

Buy The Quokka, it's Perth's version of The Trading Post and it comes out every Thursday.
There is also a car sellers market every Saturday morning adjacent to the skate park down near the wool stores/Freo train station.

Another place to try is the backpackers - there are usually posts up on the wall. Often people wanting quick sales. Look out for junk though.
