I'm in Brisbane and since I can remember around this time of year the blue blubber jellyfish are usually in plage proportions? For nearly 40 years I've been dodging these stinging little bastards .I'm not saying I miss them at all , but I wonder where have they gone? I haven't seen one in nearly 12 months.

Q. Have they simply pissed off ,and are annoying somone else in the world?

Q.Has there been some sort of catastrophic event to cause their extinction?

Q.Have the Japaneese discovered they taste good ,maybe a side dish for whale and sea cucumber?

Q.Have they simply missed the bus and just running a little late?

Anyone got any answers ,any marine biologists in house?

Port Phillip bay is filled with them so they are definitely not extinct. Maybe we have your ones.

It is really weird... Although today I saw a BROWN jelly fish I've never ever seen before... It was pretty small - about 20cm across with 50cm tentacles...

I don't care where they've gone - as long as they're not here anymore...

the brown ones are lions mayne jellyfish (snotty's) they've always been around and take it from me they grow up to 500mm-750mm round and pack a serious punch!.-

Some of the ones I saw last week were almost 2ft in diameter ( about 800m-k out off altona ) they were the ones with the stumpy finger like tentacles and the dome top. They are all over the bay at the moment.
Not sure if they cause any sting or not. Not really willing to touch the stinging part to find out

dont worry, now that we have the labor/greens backdoor deal green zones in place they will flourish along with the algal blooms, dead kittens and the blind mullet

They do sting but its pretty mild. Its sting for about 10 minutes and its gone. A mate of mine accidentally body dragged through a whole school of them trying to get back to his board. (The guy Neil who came on kitesurfari with his girlfriend)

There are a few snottys around, I saw one bigger than my head the other day, over a meter long. Ugly creatures! I take it the turtles are in good breed this season, chewing up much of the blue blubbers. Or did they see the marine national park zone signage that was put in last season at sandgate and not coming past that point?

The Chinese have been eating jelly fish for years. It is a very delicate (and expensive) dish, served mainly at cuisines. Often consumed as a cold apetiser, shredded into like noodles, sprinkled with sesame seeds. My favourite is to have them with cold drunken chicken.

I think the cold winter we had, the bay water was freezing, may have put the mocca on blue blubber breeding.

They are at my place too.. I seen plenty of blue bottles around here before but today was the first time i've seen a 'beach closed due to marine stingers' sign around here. Hope that doesn't mean any crazy psycho dangerous crap like up north. I'm so freakin hard that i bearly get an itch from most blue bottle stings now days 'cept the occasional one on upper inner thigh, near armpit or neck. But what does marine stingers at Cabarita mean? hopefully just the blue bottles the rest of you girls are scared of.
