I was stuck in Perth doing family things, and was pretty excited about getting a kite in late arvo (had to take the family to nutcracker on ice from 1 to 3).
Melville was all windsurfers and the waksa guidelines say no good on a westerly.
I can stay upwind in perfect conditions but was not confident to go out there.
Drove to leighton and I would have been in clover on my windsurfer, but I know I am not good enough with my kite to tackle onshore surf. Is there anywhere which is good for a newbie in a westerly ?
Thanks

Basically all beaches will be full onshore on a westerly.
However Woodmans Point is possible I think but still not ideal. When there is a bit of south or north in there you'll have plenty of choice though!
There would surely be some spots on the river that would be possible on a Westerly but it is not the right time of year to be out on the river in my opinion. Unless there is an Easterly, then Point Walter and the Attadale Dogbeach are great spots.
You've done the right thing not going out at Melville in winter. It really is pretty dangerous with very unpredictable gusts that can blow you straight into one of the 5 million dollar houses there.
Summer is good at Melville though, pretty busy but a lot safer!
