Nobile have a travel bag which they claim can take two boards and two kites or one board and FOUR kites, cost in the Uk is £59 approx $115. But as stated airlines now have wised up to golf bags being used and now charge for all excess baggage. Im coming to Oz in oct, flying Singapore airlines and am only allowed 20kg, I asked about golf clubs(lol) and was told 20kg total no extras unless I paid $60 per kilo over the 20kg. So I will only prob be able to bring 1 kite 1 board and 1 pair of jocks.
Previous post hit nail on head, pack light buy crap and dump before return.
Check with the airlines before you book as some have great policies! There should be a sticky post about this, but then again, I guess WA people and Queenslanders don't need to travel ("Travel? Travel? Why would I do that, I've got everything I need here, I'll just kick back with my XXXX/Swan/Little Creatures and stick this WA/Queensland shaped paper bag over my head")
My personal experiences:
Malaysian (London to Perth via KL): You can take a golf bag. It counts as 15kg of your baggage allowance even if it weighs more than 15kg.
Virgin Blue(Perth to Melbourne): Took my bag, and asked me if I wanted to check in my carry-on as well, no questions asked!
Qantas(Melbourne to London): Took my bag, which weighed something like 28kg by this stage (end of my holiday), checked it in, no questions asked no hassles. Just had to take it to the oversize check-in.
Ryanair(London - Sicily): Crap Crap Crap. Charged my £25 each way for the bag, and then tore it up on the return to London.
British Airways(Marseilles - London): Great! Conversation went something like this. "Is this your golf bag sir?"
Me: "Er, yes, yes it is..."
Them: "Excellent, well can you take it to the oversize check in then"
I'm due to fly to NZ in March with Emirates and their current policy is golf bags are included on top of your baggage allowance which is 20kg. I guess they want all those "golfers" flying to Dubai to fly with them.
Other tip I have is, if travelling with girlfriend/mate/PA get them to take a bag which is big enough to take both your clothes without exceeding their baggage limit.
20kg of clothes is a stink load of clothes by the way!
