Personally (and I can probably speak for Ewan here also) Hyperlites are the only bindings I've ever had to last longer than a year...
I think there were a few production problems that they are aware of, did you try getting warranty? I'm still yet to ever break a pair, I usually only upgrade once they are too worn out.

My Ronix Ones have lasted me 2 years so far... with lots of duct tape!
The hyperlites are such a cool concept, but having just spent a season snowboarding and being fed up with the clicky buckle strap system I don't think I could deal with that on the water, I am already too lazy to tie the laces on my ronixes
My next pair, I'm def going back to velcro
