I use two (not together)

Niva sun spray 30+ has a pump that sprays on last about 2 hours in the water

Sun sense gel, 30+ clear gel the sort of tingles as you put it on, works really well and no grease or wash off into your eyes which is great if you wear sunnies in the water

Hi Guys,

We have been using the latest release into the sunscreen market called "Hamilton Optimus". It has some new 'you-beaut' additive which prevents skin cancer apparently. Don't know about that, but I use it whilst teaching and apply once, and am in the sun all day and I haven't gotten burn't since using it.

Stings a little when it gets in your eyes, so don't apply it to your eyeballs!

Good winds,

Zinc also good for the face. Your chemist should have it - comes in skin colour or white. You will need a facial scrub product to get the remainder off after your session.

Zinc is the best by far - protection is visible and lasts for a day easy.

To take it off, just use no-name brand Aloe Vera wipes e.g. Wet Ones. It will take off a facefull of zinc with one or two wipes. These also clean salt spray off of sunglasses a treat.

Pink zinc is for losers... Those crazy uber-cool fluro ones are so rad and mint.
You can even match your face to the fluro boardies youre wearin.

I can't believe no one has suggested it yet, but the best thing I have ever put on my face is Megan Gale!!! Megan Gale Invisible zinc, never get burnt, has no harmful additives that other sunscreens have that can cause damage to vital organs. $30 at David Jones, a little exie but well worth it.

The best sunscreen will be a full boddy suit, like the one used in Queensland for stingers protection and a balaclava, with holes around the eyes and for the mouth. Sunglases on top of the balaclava are a must.
The advantage of this, is that you'l scare all other beach goers away, you'l have the beach all for you, and you may get a free ride in the police car

The best sunscreen, is the one you use and help you: must be at least 30+, the thicker they are, the best chance to last at least two hours, and don't use it to close to the eyes: all, but all of them sting, and it is not fun to kitesurf with watery eyes

Cheers

Zinc is by far the best.

Banana boat is also good but needs heavy duty cleaning and excavating later if you are not a fan of zits!

Best thing about zinc is after a session, no need for a shower, it's on with the stubbies (you know - with the Winni Blue sized pocket on the front), VB singlet and flannel hat and straight off to a BBQ! Style never goes out of fashion... slap it on and enjoy the extra attention from the female of the species

Living Nature from NZ make a zinc that comes in a pump pack - which is good because you don't get it everywhere.

Its better than the zinc that was smeared on my face when I was a kid.

Doesn't feel too thick or greasy. Cant remember the price - wasn't cheap but it lasts for ages.

Forgot I had it on the other week - and went to the pub after a kite.
Got lucky because the chicks dug it. So it was a f.in good investment.

I use the Coles homebrand...they work fine & are cheap as. I used to spend an age trying to shift the stuff with soap & water - but the wipes take it straight off..mind you with a 3 day growth on it tends to get a bit feral.

Wipes leave a smeary film on the sunnies, but it buffs off easy with a tissue or on your T-shirt.

Yeah Greenie. Know what you mean.....I used to use the coconut/cooking oil when I was a little tacker. Reckoned I hadn't had a good summer unless I peeled sheets of skin off my body and face at least five times in a season.

Only problem now is that I have to be regularly attacked with liquid nitrogen to remove the dreaded sun spots and have just had a big nasty cut out of the back of my ear. No kiting for a while due to the damn stitches.

Zinc Cream is the best for the face. Stays on forever and doesn't sting. (Ears need protection too)

Ella Bache Opaque Cover SPF30+

Cream & zinc blend. Stays on & protects like zinc but not as thick.

Costs more than a slab of beer but less than sunspot laser surgery.

Good for Queensland sun.

This thread is turning queer eye!

I buy heaps of the cheap ones and leave em everywhere so i dont loose em amongst my stuff.

I let my face hitting the water at speed take it off at the end of the day>

I go with 'Key Sun White Zinke' in 50g in White... They also have the skin toned one which looks like really thick makeup but does the job, and also a clear one I noticed the other day.

I use Bronze Zinc on my nose, lips and ears. I use whatever 30+ I happen to have kicking around in the 'beach box' on the rest of my face, neck, hands and on my scalp (I have #3 clipper cut, so my scalp cops a flogging if I don't put sun-screen on it). I wear a full sleeve rashie all year 'round, so I don't worry about arms/shoulders etc.

The Zinc lasts for ages......longer than I've ever stayed out anyway (several hours)....but the other stuff doesn't. I'm told that you should put it on at least 20mins before you get in the water too (or before you start sweating, pumping up etc), otherwise it won't last even remotely close to how long they claim on the bottle.

I found the Megan Gale zinc didn't work - I didn't get burnt but it didn't stop the freckle factor like the bronze zinc from the chemist does.
Looked at the suncream tub we use also; it's called Maxi Block 30+ and is nice and thick so stays on for long kite sessions. We call it the 'never-ending-suncream' because one 2L pump pack lasts a whole summer of VB and I using it for kiting and him using it for work (he works outdoors all the time). About $30 from chemists I think.
