Searched but no info found...
Anyone know if it's worth taking a couple of kites? May go there the second week for 2 weeks. TIA

You'll get pretty reliable winds at this time of year, but not so sure how good it would be in February...You should contact the tour operators in the area, they runs boat and plane tours year round, they would know what the winds are doing at that time of year.

One of the nicest places I've ever kited. This is at Hill Inlet.

I doubt anyone who lives there will tell you it's a good time of year.

This is the hot tropical cyclone season and there are no reliable trade winds, but it is stinger season

Winter months are the best for the SE trades, just like the rest of the north qld coast, fiji etc

That windswell vid will be in winter and it's a 700k north!

In general the islands of the Whitsundays are not a good kiting destination, there are a couple of places that are great, but it's tidal and most are rocky and coral foreshore with large hills on the islands and some fast tides between the islands.
If you going there for another reason by all means take kite gear, but if planning a kite holiday there are many better places in OZ

Amazing the contrast of hill inlet at low tide compared to high tide, never see that on a brochure

Hi mate,

I lived in the Whitsundays for a year and Long Island is a bit tricky. From what I remember to make it work, you'd need a something with north in it to kite off the resort.

The back of the island out near the helipad could be good in a south easterly, but you'd need someone to help you launch and land.

Make sure you wear a stinger suit that time of year for sure.

Best kiting would be to score a day out at whitehaven. The guys who do the rafting tours are kiters, so get in touch with them

Summer is the best for wind!!! If its blowing 15 at mine it will be 25 on the islands. As for stinggers, don't worry bout them unless you plan on body dragging!!
