G'day,

today i was on a delivery for work and i had a drop off at a beach side house in Edithvale (on port phillip bay for the outsiders), anyway i noticed about 5 slingshots up, and i think a best kite of some sort. anyways i stopped and took a senf-inflicted break at the beach and watch these guys and they were pretty good. so i am wondering, are they on this forum?

but yeah to everyone else in melb, this beach (from frankston to mordiallic) seems to be the goods from a NW to a SW and today in the breese, it looked like a ball of fun, so check it out.

thats enuff from me, hope everyone had a good weekend, as i had to work

yeah mate, that was us. we went from aspendale to frankston and then myself (yellow 7m slingshot) and another mate on the red best tried coming back on the westerly change, but only made it to keast park before we got blasted off the water, luckily our mates came and grabbed us. should have gone out. it was really good up until the storm came in. ah well, looks like tomorow should be good anyway

FWIW there were 2 of us out at Rosebud from around 9am...flat flat water & not another kiter in sight Had about a 3 hour sesh.

Bit gusty to start with but later in the morning it settled down and was fairly clean.

Aspendale, Gnotuk etc are OK but not flat.

Managed to get off the water before the storm fronts hit, fortunately...it was going ape **, hail & all.

hey tom - there was about 5 kites out at st kilda when i got back to melbourne, hopped out of the car with the thought of maybe rigging up for another sesh but it was too cold. bugger getting back into a cold soggy wetsuit. wind didnt feel as strong as rosebud but there were some small kites out. looks good for the weekend - heres hoping the forecast holds out

St Kilda is good as a last resort IMHO

Lots of obstacles e.g. boats, beginners, lessons, mooring points, dogs, onlookers, rock walls...

...and the biggest bummer of all - you have to PAY for parking...what the !!!

Counted 50 kites in the air the last time I was there in summer...havent been back since.

Some of my kite buddies swear by it tho...so suck it & see.

Bondo - I think we got the pick of the day. I cruised home up Beach Rd and stopped at St Kilda for a quick look. There were lots of poleboarders out around Hampton & 2 kites out at Brighton. Watched them from the car for a bit -looked gusty as and in the swell wouldnt have been a lot of fun.

Cant go out this weekend coming, but have the last week of Sept & first week of Oct off, so looking for some good kiting over that time. Here's hoping theres some good spring conditions on the way.

Southwest is kiteable at Altona...would be side on to sideshore...westerly there is side off. Anything with North in it - forget it.

Best wind direction is thru SSW-ESE. True easterlies there are rare

Just dont fall off near the stormwater outlets. Oh and when its blowing hard sometimes the jetty jumps out at you!

EPA did a report on Melb bay beaches for water quality and only 2 failed. Altona & Rye. Cant see how Rye failed myself as it looks so clean - but maybe its due to being so close to the shipping channel? Or maybe its all the Mornington Peninsula Poodle **.

yeah well this weekend i think i will be getting back into it, just got one of those thin Quicksilver 1mm skins for ma b'day, so that should make the wettie warmer. just gotta find the booties, they are somewhere.

if its northerly i might head down to Rosebud, SE to Pt Leo, or NW->SW i will hit the long beach (frankston to aspendale). i think i might have to find a secret spot and just kite myself untill i get back up on the board again, as winter has stopped my learning curve. flat water helps alot, so Rosebud is lookin the best for me.

glad to see more locals on this forum, and it will be good to meet you's all and progress my skills.

so if i see ya i see ya.
