Whether this has been reported before or not it is worth revisiting.

Can someone please explain why kites so expensive here. The aussie dollar has gone through the roof so technically they should be cheaper, kites like North and others are made in this part of the world, ie Sri lanka and China. So shipping cant be the reason. I cant think import tax is any more nor local sales tax. Yet kites in the UK and Europe can be almost half the price. Ie I brought a brand new 10m North Kite with bar and lines and pump for the equivalent of AUD $1,100

Because people keep buying them.More money in there pocket than lowering the price. I stopped buying major brands a while back.

Like all other retailers in Aus, there is not enough volume of sales to sustain lower prices and at the same time keep the retailer in a lifestyle they are acustom to. Also any retailer will tell you that their overheads they pay are some of the most highest, rents, taxes, fees, charges, insurances and wages of any country in the world. Not withstanding the highest Interest Payments on Business Loans in the world. So if you think this is an endightment on our economy and why Kite Equipment and so many other retail items are so expensive then "Your dead right"! Is there solutions without us decimating our retailers that are there to serve us and in turn by them serving us they get to support themselves and employ many of us? I'm sure there is as a suggestion, by us as Aussies, collectively voicing our opinions to our "Powers That Be" and the "Banks" that we are sick of being conned, ripped off, rorted, with gross inefficient miss-management of the Public Purse and our Bussinesses being taxed and charged that ultimately "Kills The Goose That Lays The Golden Egg"! If we all shop via the internet and offshore then the death of retail in this country surely will come to reality and the ramifications of this are so huge to contemplate [}:)]

What's with all the popcorn pictures in this forum, it was funny the first time.. like back in 1996. It's tired and unoriginal now. How bout a can of worms? Maybe a cat escaping from a bag.

Overseas Purchasing / Why are we so ripped off / Buying Deals

In this case a poster has discovered he can buy an item overseas cheaper than in a shop here in Australia. Now they want to share this with everybody, and also want to infer that because the price is different that "Australian businesses are ripping us all off".

Posts of this nature will be locked/or removed as they always stir up bad vibes and arguments. Like clockwork, pro-shop crew come out versus the anti-shop crew, and it's on, and has never ended well. Ends up being just a bunch of angry people arguing over a $100 difference. It's not been worth it, and everybody goes home unhappy, so we nip it in the bud before it starts.

p.s. If you want to own a kite store and make millions, here's all the details here:
