Will James New Blade Teamrider

Blade Kiteboarding is pleased to announce the addition of Will James to its 2007 International Team. Having been a top podium contender on the PKRA for several years, Will has since turned his focus to waveriding, becoming one of the most publicized waveriders in the sport and earning a 3rd place finish at last summer’s Mauritius invitational wave contest.

“Honestly I wasn’t very familiar with the company or its products before we started talking a couple months ago. But after riding the kites I realised that these guys were making an excellent product for what I’m doing on the water, and the people running the business are in tune with understanding what kind of kite the market is after.” remarked Willl. "I'm really looking forward to using this opportunity to step it up in the waves this year."

Will will be involved with the development of the next generation of blade kites and boards, and will be helping to promote the brand internationally.

Will james you may ask? Will is another one of the guys who have been around for a fairly long time in the sport.
After a long time of struggling to be any good at freestyle, Will along with alot of the other washed up kiters have realised he can trick the stupid kite companys into paying him for the useless sport of riding waves with a kite (dont ask me how), the plus side being it seems as though you need no inheriant skill or noticable progression to change discipline or even to stay sponsored throughout your waveriding career because for some reason the average joe who buys kite crap is super stoked with some dude doing a 130 degree rail transfer on a wave face.

So my advice to you is, get used to it at this rate they will be around forever while people pushing the limits struggle in the shadow of ignorance. seems to be the path this sport is taking, the path of extreme sport acceptance self destruction.

here that kids, if you missed out on the "young and enthusiastic/ADD" sponsorships because you started after seeing other younguns instead of being one of the first you can turn to pretending to be surfing and have a second chance.

Go watch Fluid Revolution- I think it's only on video- and then ask who is Will James. He is an extremely fluent rider who is using his skills to get by rather than breaking his body. When all these new skool freestyle riders are crippled in wheelchairs maybe then they will understand.

Well said Geoff. Will James can also be seen in Space Monkeys 1 and I think maybe 2. He is one of the first "kite surfers". The next thing someone will ask is, "who's Martin Vari?"

Sir whinging BI-ATCH constantly dissing people who choose to ride differently to THE WHOO WHOO WAKE CREW is poor form keep your inadequacies and immature SH1T opinions to yourself.

You should thank the wave riding contingent imagine if we were all chasing your flat water wouldnt that be fun now??

Probably around 40-50% of kiters now like the challenge of riding in the surf, good or bad some do it really well no questions and if at the top level they do it and get paid they get paid because other people want to see it and it sells kites - half their luck.

Wheres the respect? Wil has been around ripping for years I would put $$ on it Will would hand your ass over to any rider in Oz freestyle or surf

Imagine if we were all as angry and narrow minded as Sir Whinging BI-ATCH

Wahhhhoooooooooo i just got some will james boxer shorts for fathers day.

I respect the guy who quietly goes to the beach shreds like a madman and packs up quietly returning to his life.
Unencumbered by the trappings of commercial sponsorship.

Kiting has been split for quite awhile now.
There are waves to be ridden....
and then there's that other stuff they do on the flatwater.
Tricks.
You know what, kickers and sliders are really just pretend waves.

It might come as a surprise to you that some folks only ever had ambitions to kite in surf....from DAY 1.
Maybe the kitesurfing forum could be split-up into two categories...

I agree mate.

For me kiting is about the love of the ocean, freedom, expression, fun and meeting like minded people.

I personally would never accept any offer of sponsorship that would compromise how, where and when i kite or restrict me to having to fly a particular brand/style.

Sponsorship has its place (i think), good on that bloke for getting a company to fund him, but nothing is for free...

--WOW!!! OMG its Will! who freaking cares hes old news i would take your dollars along with alot of other people around OZ hes nothing special and never was. All sports evolve and people get picked up by and dropped from teams all the time in other sports i.e. skating/surfing/snowboarding.

I go surfing on a very regular basis WS i was trying to make a point that most people get nowhere near going top to bottom (180degrees at least).

i wouldnt say its better as it is a hell of alot harder but if you want to know if its any closer to surfing and looking fluid then i would say yes defiently. go watch some of the really good guys i.e. scott mckercher this dude rips and can actually achieve a roundhouse.

p.s. i havent rode a pole for a while but i might come out of the closet soon if the wind ever gets over 20 knots here with good waves.

Interesting topic.

I wouldn't want to call any rider who has achieved so much, "washed up", especially concidering they did it with gear that you wouldn't even want to use as a drop sheet now. All the pros from that generation like Vari, James, Flash, Shinn, Waiman, Herriaz and many more, were doing amazing things on kites that barely flew (in todays standards), and the fact that now 10 years on they are still ripping and their bodies are holding up show the level of sportsman they are. I may be wrong here but I believe Will was actually at an Olympic level for windsurfing before kiteboarding. These legends of kiteboarding are atheletes, and they made it in a developing sport at an older age than most of the young rubber teen-pro's are now (not taking anything away from todays pro's, you guys rip!), there is a certain level of respect that should be given to guys like Will, especially as he is also a really nice guys, I spent 2 weeks with him in Tahiti, and he is one of the nicest, most down to earth guys in the sport. Most of the major companies in this industry rely on guys like this for their experience when developing kites and design that are taking the sport to new levels.

These guys still ride at an amazing level, but it's what they bring to the sport that makes them worth paying for.
